Apply today to become Global Potential (GP) Boston Program Director

What?

  • GP Boston seeks a motivated, entrepreneurial candidate to be trained as of April or May 2013, for an average of 5 hours a week.
  • This training and shadowing of GP Boston operations will last until August 2013, at which point if well qualified, this candidate would transition to become GP Boston's part or full-time Program Director.
  • GP Boston Program Director will supervise a Boston Program Manager and Boston Program Coordinator, as well as a team of other volunteers locally (mentors, youth interns, event coordinators, etc). Teams of volunteers usually range between 5 and 10 people at any given time. Additionally there are GP Boston Mentors who are each paired with a youth.
  • This position is currently unpaid with the goal to raise through fundraising together enough funding for a salary in 2013-2014

Human Resources

  • Supervise and plan recruitment of volunteers from various universities around Boston (Northeastern, Harvard, Brandeis, Suffolk, BU, BC, UMass Boston). These volunteers will help with administration, accounting, mentorship, youth facilitation, marketing, event planning, fundraising and outreach.
  • Ensure orientation of Boston volunteers through coordinating with Administrative Coordinator in New York and reading through of manuals. Test upon completion of orientation to ensure training before starting jobs. Ensure repeated satisfaction meetings throughout volunteer time with GP.

Supervision and Staff meetings

  • GP Boston Director will speak weekly with the Organization's Management team in New York and Paris (France) about supervision and staff issues that come up.
  • Preference will be given to candidates who are licensed social workers who can supervise social work graduate students as they intern in the GP Boston office as Program Coordinators. Other considered diplomas are in the domains of international development and education. Significant experience in community organizing is a plus.
  • Candidate will run supervision individually as well as in groups, for graduate interns as well as other volunteer staff.

Recruitment and training

  • Ensure smooth process for recruitment of new cohort of youth fellows from September to December 2013
  • Ensure presence and publicity in main partner high schools thanks to partnership with Boston Public Schools.
  • Maintain links with Principals and staff at schools.
  • Ensure program coordinators and youth facilitators are trained and prepared to provide the GP training.
  • Be present when necessary at workshops, but not needed every week.
  • Provide one-on-one counseling for youth who might need additional support than what is give by other team mates.

Marketing and Communication

  • Ensure that all material for GP Boston is parallel to other materials of the Organization in New York, Paris, Dominican Republic, Haiti and Nicaragua, and transmit this information as necessary to the sources.
  • Ensure presence on all social media so that GP Boston can keep its high profile. Proficiency in use of social media tools such as blogs, Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, Linkedin and other is a plus.
  • Ensure presence in newspapers when press media opportunities occur.

Foundations and Grant Writing

  • Coordinate with other GP teams around the world when supervising grant writing team.
  • Edit and do final proof of grant submissions for GP Boston applications, in collaboration with GP Management team.
  • Be in touch with heads of foundations who should be met with frequently to maintain contact and update of the work carried out by GP Boston.

GP Boston Advisory Board

  • Ensure the well-functioning of this Board by convening quarterly meetings and reporting back to the GP Board of Directors for advice.
  • Help recruit members of the GP Boston Adivsory Board.

Partnerships and Sustainability

  • Maintain partnership with Boston Public Schools, Grand Circle Foundation and other core partners.
  • Seek partners in youth development.
  • Seek corporate partners to carry out events and sponsor youth fellowships.
  • Develop and maintain ongoing partnerships with Schools, allies, mentors, non-profits.
