Get Down Under with Frontier and experience the best of Australia on an unforgettable conservation trip. Participate in various conservation projects around the country. You could be helping to conserve endangered and unique wildlife like koalas and kangaroos, planting trees, surveying and monitoring flora and fauna, or a range of other conservation based activities. After your project why not stay on and see highlights such as the majestic Uluru (Ayers Rock) and the Great Barrier Reef. Experience the friendly and laid-back culture of the Aussies with beach barbecues and cold beers and take part in surfing, bungee jumping, white-water rafting and scuba diving.
Preserve, protect and restore the natural environment and indigenous heritage of this land on conservation projects that typically last one to two weeks each, adding meaning to your travels and giving you plenty of time to experience a place before moving on.
WHAT DOES THE PROJECT DO?
The goals of the range of projects available include biodiversity and coastal habitat conservation, sustainable land management and community environmental education. These are achieved through hands-on activities such as wildlife surveys of endangered species, installation of conservation fencing to protect vulnerable areas from livestock and feral cats and dogs, the collection of native seeds for re-vegetation and re-forestation projects, and planting trees for habitat restoration.
WHAT WILL I BE DOING?
Projects are located in Adelaide, Bendigo, Brisbane, Cairns, Canberra, Darwin, Geelong, Hobart, Melbourne, Newcastle, Perth, Sydney and Townsville.
You will need to decide which location you would prefer to volunteer at and then let us know so that we can check availability.
Project locations are typically in National or State Parks, publicly owned or managed land, farms, and coastal reserves. Work hours are Monday-Friday from 8am-4pm and work activities can include the following:
Floral & faunal surveys
Endangered species protection
Walking trail construction
We do not offer volunteers a choice of projects, as these vary according to seasonal conditions and conservation priorities. We do our best to ensure a variety of projects or locations during each Conservation Experience.
