If you or you and your friend or partner have taught a bit of English or tutored or just want to be an international teacher and help Thai English teachers and Experience tradional Thai life while volunteering to teach in rural Thailand you might be perfect for helping these Thai children.
This Thai community has a few schools, and many students who are looking for solid volunteers that can become and blend into or become part of, for a short time, their Thai culture. Some are even directed by former Buddhist monks, all are run by Thais who are working in smaller poorer Thai schools.
Length of time: 2 weeks to 3 months or possibly a year. If you are successful it can become a (long term volunteer and possibly teaching position for those with TEFL or other certificates.) Many volunteers have, after completing their placement with Mundo Exchange and local Thai associations and ngos, truly liked teaching and entered a educational program accepted by the Thai government and gone on to get paid positions. With prior 2 month or more successful experiences and recommendations they have all found it easy to get educational teaching positions.
If you would like to really learn about another way of life, a simple life, then this might be great for you. If you can get up early and go to bed pretty early and enjoy bike rides, walks and talks and of course Thai food then this volunteer experience could be for you.
If you are a volunteer who needs or wants Western party life and wants to smoke, drink, be in a city or town to go to clubs and wear Western style clothing, instead of Thai style school clothing for teachers then it is not for you. It is a choice and for some of us it is great opportunity to experience something different and never to be forgotten. If you do it the other way we will ask you to leave, no refunds, but a good bye breakfast and a thanks for trying.
The small Thai School is located near the Mekong River separating Laos from Thailand and the small town of Baanasing. The Thai location is know as part of Isaan and is one of the poorest areas of Thailand.
You will live in an area surronded by beautiful wats, farms and rice fields. The school's farm children. often from families of rice and other field workers, are eager for volunteers to come and help them to learn some Basic English and about your culture. Both volunteers and the Thai children benefit greatly from this cross cultural exchange. Volunteers assist Thai teachers.
What you will do? help Thai teachers to help Thai children and sometimes teachers learn very basic English through various learning games, art, sports and/or environmental projects. After a 3 month volunteer position often there are opportunities for low paid employment and teaching experience.
After school there are scheduled sports and other activities that volunteers may participate in while getting to know more about Thai culture and ways.
This project also offers cross cultural volunteers a way to help the local Thai community and children while providing financial assistance and support to those who are in true educational and financial need.
Again, your funding of 300 Euro for your orientation and first week and 60 Euro if you select the home stay option may be tax deductible. After your orientation you will be provided with local transportation to your placement where you have a choice of finding your own accommodation and food ( this is for the independent and educationally trained volunteer) or you can pay 60 Euro a week and be taken careof plus have your own sleeping area. This is a lot of fun and can give volunteers more opportunities to learn about local work in the area and the ways of the people.
As a nonprofit we work with the Thai Association, Laekplian Lokgatat, who has worked with this school for years.
