Volunteer Opportunity description

Casa Dolores, Center for the Study of the Popular Arts of Mexico, is seeking Museum docents for a variety of activities. Pick one or more of the following!

  • Escort individuals or groups on tours through the museum
  • Assist with educational activities for school children and adults
  • Volunteer for special events: exhibition openings, Día de los Muertos
  • Assist with an art workshop or cooking class (set up, clean up)
  • Help with our summer art camp for children
  • Distribute brochures and event flyers

Accepted volunteers work out of the museum which is housed in the historic Botiller Adobe (built in 1843), in downtown Santa Barbara.

About the Museum: Casa Dolores, Center for the Study of the Popular Arts of Mexico, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization devoted to the collection, preservation, study, and exhibition of an extensive variety of objects of the popular arts of Mexico. Our mission is to expand the passion of Mexican Arts and Crafts with the community and visitors by stimulating the appreciation of the Mexican culture through educational programs, demonstrations, and free access to exhibits and the center's library.

The Center currently houses a collection of 6,000+ objects in a variety of mediums: clay, ceramic, wood, natural fibers, leather, paper, glass, and tin. It is the largest collection of handcrafted art from Mexico on the Central Coast.
