Volunteer Opportunity description

The Winooski Teen Center serves hot, nutritious meals to teens three nights per week, who would otherwise go without. Cooking and eating with the teens is a great way to get to know them and to gain a better understanding for some of the issues they face.

Teen Center Kitchen Volunteers arrive at 4:30 p.m. and work independently to serve a free, delicious meal for an average of 30 wonderful Winooski children.

Cooking experience not necessary. All meal ingredients and commercial-grade cooking equipment provided.

Currently, we need Cooks for the following days and times: Tuesdays 4:30-6:30pm Thursdays 4:30-6:30pm

We especially need volunteers during college breaks!

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Heat and prepare meals per menu instructions.
  • Serve meals buffet-style.
    • Make sure youth take all portions of the meal the first time through the line.
    • After the first time through the line, youth may request anything they want.
  • Clean up after dinner.
  • Move furniture back to original positions.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Positive attitude
  • Enthusiasm for working with youth
  • Meet with Teen Center staff and complete Volunteer Application/Interview and review Volunteer Handbook prior to beginning service.
  • Volunteer must undergo a background check prior to beginning service.
  • Minimal kitchen experience required.

Commitment Required

We generally need community volunteers for college breaks.

One dinner a week or on an as-needed basis.
