Tutors begin their service with a comprehensive training designed to provide a toolkit of reading/writing and language learning strategies to apply with Durham Literacy Center students.
There are two steps involved in becoming a volunteer tutor:
(1) Attend one of our brief orientation sessions to learn about our different programs and which one is the best fit for you.
Please attend ONE orientation from 6-7pm, from the following dates for January 2013:
- Wednesday, January 9 (6-7pm)
- Thursday, January 10(6-7pm)
- OR Monday, January 14 (6-7pm)
Location: 1905 Chapel Hill Road, Durham NC 27707
(2) Attend a comprehensive 12 hour training. Tutors need not have prior experience in teaching to become involved in this work.
Tutor Training (Tutors are required to attend all three dates):
- Tuesday, January 22 (6-9pm)
- Thursday, January 24 (6-9pm)
- Saturday, January 26 (9am-3pm)
