Roanoke Community Garden Association- Resource Development

The AmeriCorps VISTA Member will work with Roanoke Community Garden Association in Roanoke, VA in a Resource Development position to develop a fundraising plan and materials for building organizational capacity and sustainability. They will assess any current funding activities and the organization's needs. They will develop resources to support fundraising efforts with assistance of the board of directors and develop a marketing plan and materials for building organizational capacity and sustainability. The marketing plan includes fundraising event(s), direct mail, newsletters, eblasts, and social media. The VISTA will develop brochures, flyers, and other cultivation materials for distribution in the local community.

The AmeriCorps VISTA Member will work with The Roanoke Community Garden Association in Roanoke, VA as a Volunteer Coordinator. They will increase capacity for RCGA programs by developing a comprehensive volunteer management system that includes a recruitment, retention, and recognition plan. The VISTA will develop a community outreach and marketing plan for RCGA programs directed toward schools, volunteers, local government, and donors which includes fundraising event(s), direct mail, newsletters, eBlasts, and social media to increase the public awareness of educational outreach programs available. They will also set up outreach systems and build partnerships with community organizations in order to spread the word out about RCGA projects.

The AmeriCorps VISTA Member will work with Freedom First Credit Union in Roanoke, VA to assess the design and efficiency of the FHLB Set Aside Home Rehab Program at Freedom First in order to develop and suggest improvements. They will develop and draft a report that establishes "Best Practices" of the existing FHLB Set Aside Home Rehab program and develop recommendations to improve efficiencies and make presentation to the Community Development Executive Staff at Freedom First. They will assess the delivery of financial education and the existing collection of outcomes in order to develop and recommend improvements and research current Freedom First financial education offerings and delivery focusing on current partnerships with Non-Profits and existing outcome collection processes. The VISTA Member will develop action steps to effectively transition financial education recipients from the classroom to utilize products and services that lead to measurable success.

The AmeriCorps VISTA Member will work with Virginia Cooperative Extension in Amelia, VA on a Master Financial and Master Food Volunteer program. They will create infrastructure to sustain volunteer programs by developing volunteer resource materials to enable the transition of VISTA managed activities to VCE-managed volunteers. The VISTA Member will identify key stakeholders and community partnerships to secure long-term resources for the delivery of VCE Family and Consumer Sciences programs and support volunteer sustainability. They will also develop a tracking system for reporting and evaluating collaborations with the VCE Family Financial Management team to deliver greatest impact.

The AmeriCorps VISTA Member will work with Virginia Cooperative Extension in Pulaski County to increase the number of volunteers involved in Family Consumer Science programs to reach new and diverse audiences. They will work to recruit volunteers as Master Financial Educators and Master Food Volunteers. The VISTA will conduct outreach and develop corporate/business prospect lists to cultivate and expand awareness for new projects, funding, and volunteers. They will increase capacity for FCS programs by updating and evaluating the current volunteer management system that includes recruitment strategy, retention, materials, and a database and develop community outreach and marketing strategies for FCS programs to increase public awareness of educational outreach programs available through VCE in Giles and Pulaski County. The AmeriCorps VISTA will also determine critical fundraising needs and develop a fundraising plan and materials for building organizational capacity and sustainability.

The AmeriCorps VISTA Member will work with The Advancement Foundation in Vinton, VA to execute an assessment of the current technological procedures and needs of nonprofit clients, focusing on identifying the processes in use by staff and volunteers, and further identifying a plan of action to improve processes through training or the inclusion of new systems. They will assess database systems and recommend any changes for updates and develop database systems for nonprofits and provide recommended training that will track donor giving, provide a medium for running quarterly/annual reports, and allow other VISTAs access to trend information that will inform the fund raising element of the project plan. The VISTA Member will develop online training sessions focused on the essential elements for successful non-profit management and capacity building and recruit volunteers who will assist in the maintenance of such online media as: websites, Facebook, Twitter, and/or blogs.

Feeding America SWVA- Abingdon

The AmeriCorps VISTA Member will work with Feeding America Southwest Virginia in Abingdon, VA to identify and cultivate new food sources and donors for the Prepared and Perishable food program and sources for fresh produce. They will research, identify, and contact new food donors, and other sources to obtainfood products and include food donations from restaurants, schools, stores, and local farmers.

They will expand the "Grow A Row" Program in the Abingdon distribution area byrecruiting 6 new produce donors. The VISTA will also establish and document new approaches to further expand existing food drivesto increase the amount of food donated to ensure that enough food suitable for mobile pantry will be available. Finally, the VISTA will work to expand opportunities for the Abingdon distribution center volunteer program. In the third year of this project, they will finalize a volunteer management system and develop a sustainability model to administer the program upon completion of the VISTA service.

The AmeriCorps VISTA Member will work with Washington County Habitat for Humanity in Abingdon, VA to determine the critical fundraising needs and develop a fundraising plan and materials for building organizational capacity and sustainability. They will do this by assessing and evaluate the current mass appeals, expand prospect identification, and identify potential donors for fundraising and sponsorship opportunities. The AmeriCorps VISTA will develop a marketing plan and coordinate at least 3 "Habitat Sales". They will develop a one-year timeline marketing plan including fundraising event(s), (Habitat Sales), newsletters, eblasts, and social media. The VISTA will also work on developing brochures, flyers, and other cultivation/awareness materials for distribution online and in the local community.
