Volunteer Opportunity description

SAFE is hiring (2) CWP Interns

The Court Watch Project is a volunteer staffed project in which court proceedings in the Domestic VIolence Unit at DC Superior Court are monitored. That information is published for the court, the Bar and the public to ensure transparency and to give victims a greater voice in how the court processes domestic violence cases. Volunteers will attend court in the Domestic Violence Unit of the Superior Court of the District of Columbia on specific days to observe Civil Protection Order cases and record case outcomes on a form. This data will then be collected and analyzed for a report.

The CWP Intern will:

Collect data while observing DC Domestic Violence Unit CPO Court proceedings;

Enter and analyze data;

Take note of and analyze apparent trends;

Write blog posts for the Court Watch Project Blog.

Requirements:

Interest in the justice system, law and/or domestic violence;

Attention to detail;

Ability to commit 10 hours per week;

Previous experience analyzing data or statistical background.
