Fundraising Director of the Board of Directors

The Board will support the work of PMP and provide mission-based leadership and strategic governance. While day-to-day operations are led by PMP's President/Founder, the Board-Founder relationship is a partnership, and the appropriate involvement of the Board is both critical and expected. Please note that this is a deliverables-driven position that allows Member to work flexibly from any location worldwide. Specific Board Member responsibilities include:

Leadership, governance and oversight:

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to the President/Founder as she develops and implements PMP's strategic plan
  • Increase funds by researching and targeting charitable trusts whose criteria match the charity's aims and activities
  • Review outcomes and metrics created by PMP for evaluating its impact, and regularly measuring its performance and effectiveness using those metrics; reviewing agenda and supporting materials prior to board and committee meetings
  • Write applications and mail-shots, using direct mailing to reach a wide range of potential and current donors;
  • Make risk analyses and balancing time-cost ratios to focus effort on the most appropriate fundraising activities with the highest chance of success.
  • Approve PMP's annual budget, audit reports, and material business decisions; being informed of, and meeting all, legal and fiduciary responsibilities
  • Contribute to an annual performance evaluations
  • Assist the President/Founder and board chair in identifying and recruiting other Board Members
  • Partner with other board members to ensure that board resolutions are carried out
  • Serve on committees or task forces and taking on special assignments
  • Represent PMP to stakeholders; acting as an ambassador for the organization
  • Ensure PMP's commitment to a diverse board and staff that reflects the communities PMP serves


  • Extensive professional experience with significant executive leadership accomplishments in business, government, philanthropy, or the nonprofit sector
  • BA in a fundraising discipline with some work-related experience, or a combination of academic and work experiences
  • Ability to independently apply a broad knowledge of fund-raising practices and principles.
  • A commitment to and understanding of PMP's beneficiaries, preferably based on experience
  • Savvy diplomatic skills and a natural affinity for cultivating relationships and persuading, convening, facilitating, and building consensus among diverse individuals
  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a passion for improving the lives of PMP's beneficiaries

Board terms/participation

PMP's Board Members will serve a minimum of two-year term to be eligible for re-appointment for each additional year. In addition, board members assist in fundraising goals to cover operational costs and must recruit at least one person during his or her tenure at the organization. Board meetings will be held quarterly and committee meetings will be held in coordination with full board meetings.
