VOLUNTEER AS A TEACHING AIDE in an ESL and Computer Literacy course! Volunteers needed to help low-wage service workers learn English and Computer skills.
Our Organization: The Building Skills Partnership (BSP) is a statewide non-profit collaboration between the Californian janitors' union (SEIU-USWW), community leaders, and responsible businesses to build a strong future for building service workers, their families, and communities by advancing skills, opportunities, and self sufficiency.
Volunteer Skill Requirements: • Patience, enthusiasm, and respect for other cultures. • Dependability and flexibility. • Spanish speaking skills and teaching experience helpful, but not required.
Responsibilities: • Help with activities conducted in class • Assist in a multi-level integrated ESL and Computer Literacy course for low-wage immigrant workers. Help the teacher with class activities by working with small groups of students and answering student questions • Commitment to volunteer at least once a week for most weeks during the duration of the course (about four months).
When: Mondays and Fridays from 10am to 12:30pm beginning March 4th, 2013

Benefits: As a volunteer at BSP you will acquire skills in teaching ESL and Comptuer Literacy, gain knowledge about the issues facing newcomer families, and learn about the social services and other resources available to immigrants and low-wage workers in the Bay Area counties. BSP is a registered 501(c)(3) and volunteer hours can count towards fulfilling a community service requirement.
