CMMB implements healthcare programs that build the capacity of local health systems to provide quality services, without discrimination, to people in need around the world. Programs address major causes of morbidity and mortality in the developing world, including HIV/AIDS, malaria, TB and maternal and child health illnesses. These programs aim to reduce preventable deaths by increasing access to healthcare services in the communities where CMMB works, and by strengthening capacity within local health facilities.
As part of this mission, CMMB's Zambia country program is seeking a Public Health Program Coordinator and Grant Writer for its country programs, including two HIV prevention programs in three provinces in Zambia. The volunteer will assist with daily program-related activities for large-scale, multi-year CDC and USAID-funded programs. The programs aim to avert new HIV infections through the provision of comprehensive prevention services and referrals. S/he will be responsible for assisting with the implementation of CMMB prevention activities in line with the program's technical strategy, targets and objectives. S/he will also help oversee the adequate implementation of the program's interventions by all sub-partners, ensuring the project services reach the targeted populations in the district. Additionally, as a Grant Writer, s/he will work in collaboration with the relevant field and U.S.-based personnel to develop proposals for new opportunities in Zambia. S/he will be responsible for assisting the coordination of accompanying grant application materials, such as letters of support, budgets, partnership teaming agreements, CVs, job descriptions, etc. This position is based in Lusaka, Zambia. As part of this package, CMMB will provide housing, stipend for meals/living expenses, evacuation insurance and transport to and from the site from the volunteer's home country during the duration of the volunteer term (1 year).
Duties and Responsibilities:
Program Coordinator Role
- Assist with the planning, management, implementation and M&E/reporting for CMMB's role in the HIV prevention programs.
- Under the direction of the Project Manager, liaise with counterparts from implementing partners, agencies, and organizations to coordinate activities.
- Work with the M&E Officer to plan, coordinate and the effectively monitor CMMB's program activities, including the collection, dissemination and analysis of data/evidence to CMMB.
- Help ensure multi-sectoral and multi-level approaches to increase the involvement and participation of all potential stakeholders and actors, especially at the district level.
- Conduct research and document evidence-based approaches for HIV prevention that take into account the dynamics of the epidemic and the context of sub-population groups.
- Develop communication and program documentation materials for the project.
- Assist with the planning and implementation of project trainings for healthcare workers and community mobilizers.
- Participate in supportive supervision site visits to partners and to project-related trainings and events.
- Assist with donor report writing.
- In liaison with the Financial and Administration team, assist with the development of program budgets.
- Other duties as requested by the CMMB Zambia Country Director and Programs Manager.
Grant Writer Role
- Assist proposal development and technical writing for award opportunities as assigned.
- Coordinate required in-country grant application materials, such as letters of support, budgets, teaming agreements, and human resource components
- Liaise with other CMMB operational program areas (Strategic Information, Communications, HR) critical for successful proposal development.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
- Masters degree in public health or related professional advanced degree preferred. Clinical qualifications (R.N., Doctor, etc.) welcome. Bachelor's degree required.
- Experience in public health in developing countries preferred.
- Basic knowledge of evidenced-based HIV/AIDS prevention, including HIV Testing and Counseling, Monitoring and Evaluation methodologies to illustrate the impact of HIV prevention interventions.
- Excellent writing and editing skills, with demonstrated grant writing experience.
- Experience working with or knowledge of USG-supported cooperating agencies such as USAID and CDC, and international counterpart organizations useful.
- Excellent interpersonal, presentation and English communication skills.
- Computer literacy: Microsoft Office. SPSS/Stata or other M&E software experience beneficial.
- Willingness to endure rural working conditions, frequent travel and evening/weekend hours.
