Description

Youth Challenge International (YCI) is recruiting a team of three Canadians to support local organizations in Mwanza, Tanzania working on prevention of gender-based violence from January 29 to February 26, 2013. This exciting Youth Ambassador opportunity will include a pre-project distance-learning program, followed by an intensive four-week placement in Mwanza and surrounding areas. While in-country, you will work with YCI's field staff, local partner organizations and the local government to further the reach and relevance of their programming.

Gender-Based Violence Prevention
Your background in gender, counseling/peer support, marketing and/or facilitation/training combined with strong intercultural communication skills will help build the capacity of our partner, Kivulini, and the local organizations they work with.

Key Responsibilities:
In conjunction with Kivulini and other NGO staff:
• Build capacity of local organizations to reach youth with positive educational messages about gender and violence-prevention.
• Develop training for NGO staff to build their skills in counseling, outreach, and program design
• Assist youth and women entrepreneurs with product design, marketing and vocational skill building
• Support youth organizations to reach a wider audience with their positive messages, through social media, radio and other interactive methods
• Support youth living with HIV/AIDS to fight against violence and discrimination in access to health care and employment opportunities
• Complete final report to inform future groups and partner staff

Skills and Experience:
• Demonstrated experience working with gender issues in a multi-cultural environment.
• Experience in facilitating trainings and workshops
• Experience working with grassroots organizations
• Strong planning and organization skills
• Demonstrated report writing skills and knowledge of monitoring and evaluation
• Computer proficiency
• Prior cross-cultural experience and strong inter-cultural communication skills
• Appropriate post-secondary education or relevant work experience
