South Bronx United, a sports based youth development organization, is seeking a volunteer with an interest in film editing and/or videography who is passionate about helping under-served youth realize their college dreams. The intern will be tasked filming youth soccer matches during the City Showcase Soccer Tournament, a tournament designed to give low income, minority students greater college exposure. The video will be used to help the student athletes develop highlight videos to be sent to collegiate soccer programs in the hopes of obtaining athletic scholarships.
The tournament will take place April 18 and 19th, 9-5pm at Randall's Island, NYC Fields 70-75 and 80-84 (NOT required to help both days or entirety of the event). For more information on the tournament visit: www.southbronxunited.org/showcase.
All the youth in the program are competitive soccer players, many of whom have the ability to obtain athletic scholarships with the right support and resources. Without these scholarships many colleges are out of reach for program youth due to financial circumstance.
For those interested this could be a long term volunteer position and could involved running small groups on videography and video editing. There is also potential to work on promotional videos to help the organization in fundraising efforts.
The position could be a good fit for graduate students in film working on final projects. If interested please email Carlos, firstname.lastname@example.org with your resume to discuss further.
South Bronx United is a youth development organization that uses soccer as a tool for social change. Since 2009, the organization has grown into a community that includes over 100 volunteers, countless families, and more than 500 boys and girls who participate each year in education and character development programs, on six travel teams, and on 37 recreational teams. South Bronx United strives to promote educational achievement, health and wellness, and leadership through activities on and off the soccer field and to unite a diverse group of individuals and an incredibly diverse community toward common positive goals.
South Bronx United uniquely combines soccer with education, mentoring, health and wellness promotion, and character development. In addition to the recreational and travel soccer programs, the organization runs an after school tutoring program during the school year, the Summer Soccer Scholars program, and college and career prep activities. Because of the connections both on and off the field, SBU youth form a unique and essential relationship with their coaches and support staff, providing them with a support network that is often missing at school or at home. Thanks to this bond and the educational programming in which all youth in travel teams participate, South Bronx United is able to help youth achieve personal and academic success. Join the SBU team and help us Build Leaders and Scholars Through Soccer!
