Practice interviews are the best way for volunteers to make an immediate impact on the lives of our hardworking clients. It is an interactive experience that simulates professional interviews to help prepare low-income job seekers for real-world interviews. It is a chance to offer constructive feedback to help our clients develop interview confidence.
The clients the you will be working with are low-income people in our Job-Search and Job-Readiness workshop. They have committed to working with us to transform their lives by setting realistic acheivable goals and applying for good jobs with career potential.
Practice interviews are on most Friday mornings. New volunteers come at 8:45 am for a brief orientation session and interviews start at 9:15 am. Ideally, you will be conducting 5 practice interviews during the morning. Each interview lasts 20 minutes; 15 minutes for interviewing and 5 minutes for feedback. At 11:30 am, you will meet with other volunteers and staff members to give us helpful feedback about the clients.
Right now, we are recruiting for the first workshop of 2013! Our last cohort of job-seekers will have their practice interviews on January 11the, January 18th, January 25th, and February 1st. It is a very rewarding experience and our clients will appreciate the involvement, as will the staff. Minimum commitment is one Friday morning from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm, but we welcome you to join us as frequently as you'd like!
