Gain valuable skills tutoring high school students and connecting with the community! Dedicated, enthusiastic volunteers and work-study students are needed in the Franklin High School Tutoring Center.
Responsibilities:
- Tutor high school students on any and all subjects including science, math, writing composition and foreign language. (The Tutoring Center also works with many English Language Learning, minority, refugee, differently-abled, and low-income students)
- Be a positive role model for students
- Communicate clearly and effectively with teachers, staff, and students
Qualifications:
- Be encouraging, patient, enthusiastic, reliable and punctual
- Enjoy working with high school students
- Sensitive/open to people from diverse lifestyles, socioeconomic levels, and cultures
- Work as part of a team
- Attend required trainings
Training/Resources Provided:
- All volunteer receive a one-to-one training and orientation before beginning volunteer service.
- All volunteers complete an interview and pass a background check before beginning volunteer service.
Commitment and Schedule:
- The Tutoring Center is open Mon - Thurs every week that Portland Public Schools are in session
- Tutors must commit to at least a 1 day per week
- Hours: Mon/Tues/Thurs: 3:15 – 5 pm, Weds: 2:15 – 4 pm
Winter Term is January 7th – March 22nd. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.
