Volunteer Coordinator: Anjellicle Cats Rescue at Petco 86

Anjellicle Cats Rescue seeks a Volunteer Coordinator for our adoption center at Petco on Lexington Ave & E. 86th Street, NYC. The Coordinator plays a key role in our organization. S/he manages volunteer communications and scheduling, and insures that things run smoothly for the volunteers and the cats. The new Coordinator will initially work with our current Volunteer Coordinator and will take on more responsibilities as desired. Responsibilities:

--Coordinate scheduling for staff of 25-30 volunteers.

--Respond to inquiries from new volunteers and schedule orientation dates.

--Manage Google group and online calendar.

--Work with Cat Care Director to keep volunteers informed of new policies, cat updates, etc.

--Cooperate with Petco staff to create a positive, healthy environment for cats and volunteers.

Time commitment: Four hours a week (or more if you have time). This position involves a high volume of email.

Qualifications:

--We're looking for someone who likes working with both people and cats: a good communicator who is organized, flexible and enjoys multi-tasking.

--Good writing skills are desirable.

--Prior management or volunteer experience is desirable.

--We would prefer for the Volunteer Coordinator to live near Petco 86 or be able to travel there at least once a week.

If interested, the Coordinator can volunteer for a weekly cat care shift, introduce cats to potential adopters, help with direct management of cats, and/or provide orientation and training to new volunteers.

About Anjellicle Cats Rescue at Petco 86:

Petco 86 is one of Anjellicle Cats Rescue's three adoption centers. (The others are Petco UWS and Spoiled Brats in Midtown West.) We have eight cats at Petco 86 and approximately 25-30 volunteers. Our goal is to nurture the cats while working to adopt them out or place them in foster homes as quickly as possible. Volunteers provide loving care, daily exercise and mental stimulation for the cats—as well as the basics: food, water and clean litter. We have volunteer shifts twice a day, every day of the week.

The volunteer coordinator has a key role in keeping this adoption center running smoothly. This position offers a good springboard for a volunteer who wants to be involved with daily management at Anjellicle Cats Rescue. It is a great way to learn about cat rescue and to gain experience in nonprofit or personnel management.

Anjellicle Cats Rescue (ACR) is a 501(c)3 volunteer organization dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating and adopting out New York City's homeless cats and kittens, with a focus on local shelter animals in immediate danger of being euthanized. Through a coalition of volunteer advocates and foster caregivers, ACR extends a last minute lifeline of time, attention and care needed to ultimately place these abandoned animals into permanent, loving homes. We believe that no animal should be ill-treated and strive toward a day when awareness, education and compassion have served to permanently replace euthanasia as a solution to companion animal overpopulation.
