Ayuda is seeking a bilingual (Spanish/English) legal administrative assistant to assist with client correspondence and communication in Ayuda's Virginia office. Ayuda's mission is to protect the legal rights of low-income immigrants in the D.C. metropolitan area. We are the DC area's leading source of multi-lingual legal and social assistance for low-income Latinos and foreign-born persons in immigration, human trafficking, domestic violence, and family law. Our organizational activities include:legal and social services that respond to changing public policies and client needs; assistance to survivors and victims of domestic violence; collaboration and referrals to assure client access to culturally appropriate services; community education about rights and resources; and training and technical assistance to social service organizations and government agencies to better serve immigrants.
JOB DUTIES: • Assist Attorneys and Intake Specialist with written and telephonic communication with clients and potential clients • Keep case files current, creating new and closing out files under direction of Intake Specialist and Attorneys • Enter data in legal case management database • Copy and prepare application packets for mailing • Translation and interpretation •Create and update fliers and other publicity documents for program
REQUIRED SKILLS: • Fluent in Spanish and English, written and spoken • Proficient in computer applications of Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel or experience in data base program • Professional demeanor over the phone and in person • Able to draft and edit letters in Spanish and English • Maintain confidentiality in all matters • Able to work with high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
HOURS REQUIRED: 16-40 hours per week (within office hours of 8am-4pm); No weekend/evening volunteer hours available. We are seeking someone able to begin in September 2013.
