Volunteer Opportunity description

Director of Program: Coordinates the program team; develops and executes the seminar program. Previous HOBY volunteer experience is strongly encouraged and the applicant must be over 18 years of age. A member of the Leadership Seminar Team, reports to the Leadership Seminar Chair. Oversees the Program Committee

Responsibilities

  • Recruits a committee as needed; plans and hosts Program committee meetings
  • Contributes information to the Director of Fundraising in August regarding anticipated Program costs that will affect the budget and items that may be solicited as Gifts-in-Kind (GIK) donations.
  • Develops a draft Seminar agenda, that meets local needs and fulfills all Seminar requirements; solicits feedback from Seminar team and revises, as needed
  • Oversees/coordinates all events associated with the Seminar (e.g., Opening session, Phase components, Leadership for Service segment, ambassador meals, Parent program, Closing Session, mentor lunch, college fair)
  • Is responsible for the solicitation and confirmation of all Key Note speakers, panelists, and other guest participants (e.g., mentors for a mentor lunch, organization representatives for the Leadership for Service segment, university or cooperating organization representatives).
  • Works with Director of Operations to ensure materials/supplies required for Program activities are created/produced or available (e.g., phase intro packets; enough newspaper, tape and scissors for a newspaper fashion show)
  • Optionally, develops a Program theme which may be reflected in facilitator group names, Seminar activities, and the design of Program Books, T-shirts and other Seminar materials.
  • Creates and produces the Seminar Program Book, following Seminar Program Book requirements
  • Works with Director of Staff to ensure staff assignments meet Program needs.
  • Is responsible for ensuring the Program flows smoothly throughout the weekend.
  • Attends Seminar Planning Team meetings: monthly Sept-Feb; semi-monthly Mar-Apr; weekly May through the Seminar
  • Turns over copies of relevant documents and communications to LSC for central record keeping.
  • Contributes to other Seminar planning efforts as needed

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Must be able and willing to work with electronic resources
  • Must be available for the entire Seminar weekend (May 23-26, 2013 Willamette University Salem, OR)
