Help bridge the digital divide in Mutual Housing communities of households of modest income. As our Summer Vista you will work with children and adults to access the tools available on computers and Chromebooks. You will work with Mutual Housing as we work to create a culture of college and learning in our computer labs or by helping us implement a Chromebook lending program. Specifically, you will work with children to improve their math and literacy skills. You may also work with adults that may be touching a computer for the first time and need basic keyboarding skills and an understanding of the vast tools available through the internet. The applicant should be able to work independently and in a team environment. They will need strong planning skills to create lesson plans that teach key lessons and flexible to tailor the plans to the actual participants. Skills required include understanding of MS Office, Google Docs, and Chromebooks. Bilingual skills in Spanish, Chinese, Vietnamese, Hmong or Russian will also help in reaching out to the various households. Modest travel may be required between Mutual Housing communities in Sacramento and Davis.
A car is strongly recommended and candidates must commit to the full ten weeks of service from June 6-August 15, 2016.
