i-ACT's mission is empowering individuals to take personal responsibility and act on behalf of those affected by genocide, mass atrocities, and crimes against humanity. We are a global team dedicated to putting a face on the numbers of people affected by these situations. We create mutually-enriching relationships between those in danger and those willing and able to act, fostering a culture of participation.
Central to i-ACT's approach is pushing the limits of activism through innovation and technology. Since 2005, we have leveraged cutting-edge web, social media and satellite technology to bring people around the world closer to Darfuri refugees in Eastern Chad. In 2009, using low-bandwidth video streaming, we connected thousands of web participants around the world with refugees in Eastern Chad. In 2010 we launched a distributed CommKit, a communications kit in a backpack with a computer, satellite modem, batteries, and media tools. Using the CommKit refugee youth and leaders can connect to others using our social network, Pazocalo, that is optimized for simplicity and offline operation. Through this, Darfuri are now connected with students in US schools and advocacy leaders. Our vision is to extend these services to conflict-affected communities around the world.
We are looking for a software engineer and all-round tech ninja to join our team. It would great if you lived in the greater San Francisco area since gatherings help propel the work forward. However, we have experience with working alongside independently motivated people anywhere in the world, as our team works online and through video/phone conferencing. You will play a major role in:
The ideal candidate would be a team player and self-starter with:
We value attitude as much as competence, so even if you don't have all of the above skills, we'd love to hear from you. We are looking for someone who can commit long-term to the mission and program.
Please email Katie-Jay Scott Stauring at ktj@iactivism.org with your resume and a short description of why you are interested in working with i-ACT. There will be a follow-up phone call with our tech team members and Director.
