Volunteer Opportunity description

Institute for Social Advancement (ISA) is a soon-to-be 501c3/ non-governmental organization which aims to bring together bright minds to solve the world's most unique problems.

ISA will implement a pilot program in Lesotho, Southern Africa. Our goal is to develop a sustainable program infusing academics, leadership, and dance to empower students to learn, live, and lead. For this project, we are looking to gather a group of core members from NYC to help develop the foundation and curricula for the program. The launch date for the program is JUNE 2013 so we have a very strict deadline to meet.

Our finternational program is focused on providing an alternative educational program to the youths of Lesotho, Africa where they will be immersed in an innovative curriculum meshing academic rigor, leadership training, and the arts. We hope that through this program, we will be able to instill in our student participants the skills and confidence to go back into their communities and lead lives dedicated to helping communities thrive

ISA Information Technology Associate will be responsible for supporting the existing project infrastructure. The ideal candidate must be able to work in a team environment, display excellent written and oral skills with demonstrated interpersonal and organization abilities.

Volunteers are required to:

  • Attend meeting at least once a month
  • Have a strong writing skills
  • Have a can - do attitude and not be afraid to speak out
  • Experience with non profit is a plus (not required)

Specific Responsibility includes:

  • Responsible for the maintenance and enhancement of existing web site and web-based resources
  • Design and develop a database systems
  • Working with project administrator to track students and update tracking data for each student
  • Designing web-based and print materials for marketing and communications

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, science, mathematics, engineering, or relevant field
  • Web design/maintenance skills required
  • Knowledge of graphics software such as Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign preferred
  • The ability to communicate and teach non-technical users

This is an unpaid position, however school credit can be supplied and travelling and accomodation may be provided. Furthermore, it stands out on the resume.
