Habitat for Humanity International (Habitat) is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry. Habitat seeks to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness from the world, and to make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action. Habitat invites people of all backgrounds, races and religions to build houses together in partnership with families in need. Habitat's work is accomplished at the community level by affiliates—independent, locally run, nonprofit organizations. Each affiliate coordinates all aspects of Habitat home building in its local area—fund raising, building site selection, partner family selection and support, house construction, and mortgage servicing.
New York City, Habitat for Humanity, located in New York City, is seeking to fill four construction crew leader opportunities.
These members will mainly be supporting our Sandy Recovery efforts. Members will be focusing on Staten Island and launching our Critical Home Repair program, disaster reponse efforts like demolition and rebuilding in addition to working on other non-Sandy construction sites in Brooklyn and Queens. Members provide construction leadership, training and support of volunteers and partner families. Members lead construction tasks, provide safety instruction, serve as a crew leader, participate in deconstruction and renovation of homes, maintain safety equipment, transport materials and supplies, and arrange for storage.
