Volunteer Opportunity description

Do you want to prevent 3 or 4 year old children from struggling with reading and math in 3rd grade?

When children start kindergarten unprepared, they usually do not catch up. In California, more than 3 million students in grades K-12 live in under-served families. And, achievement test results show that most of these students are academically below grade level year-after-year.

Role Models prepare children for kindergarten by providing them with a 40 minute, one-on-one lesson every week.

Role Models are trained in how to help children master learning goals such as: how to count to ten, how to sing the ABCs, how to write their name, etc. Training also covers the importance of relationships, enthusiasm, and encouragement. Children look up to role models as teachers and friends.
