San Pedro Jacuaro is a beautiful village close to the natural park of Los Azufres, a geothermal zone with beautiful landscapes. This will be the first year that this project is organized in the local school in San Pedro Jacuaro. Education is an important tool for improving the life of people in any country, and this school is aimed at bringing formal education to isolated communities where there are many social problems, lack of work, and where youngsters immigrate to the USA, looking for better opportunities. The school gives tools and experiences to the youngsters to develop and improve their lives in the town. In this frame, the international group of volunteers will participate in different activities, not only environmental, but also cultural and social, together with the students and the people living in the village. This is an opportunity to get to know local people and make a lot of new friends. The community has always welcomed the international volunteers with open arms and this makes a memorable international experience. If you are looking for an ecological project in a very nice town, surrounded by natural landscapes, where you can do something useful and make new friends, this project is for you!
The international volunteers will realize different activities in cooperation with groups of local volunteers, in order to raise awareness about the protection of the environment. Volunteers will carry out some tasks of reforestation in the surroundings to awake the public conscience about preserving natural areas. The other main goal is to share culture and traditions with students and campus staff. The local volunteers are looking forward to welcoming the international participants to complete a meaningful project, but also to make friends and show the Mexican culture!
Language: The official language of the project is English. Some Spanish would be appreciated.
Leisure time: There are many possibilities for leisure activities in San Pedro Jacuaro, such as a visit to the natural park of Los Azufres. Also you can visit the nearby cities like Morelia as well as natural reserves and others colonial cities such as Guanajuato.
