Working directly with our Forests Team staff, Outreach Leaders will develop organizing skills by engaging RAN Palm Oil Activists across the nation and mobilizing them to take action. The National Organizing Program aims to break the link between the palm oil in America's snack foods and rainforest destruction, species extinction, human rights abuses and climate change.
As an Outreach Leader, you will work with experienced campaigners and program staff to put pressure on 20 of the most well known food companies in the world, the Snack Food 20, to get Conflict Palm Oil off the shelves. Specifically, Outreach Leaders will work with our campaign team to push PepsiCo, a major Conflict Palm Oil laggard, to adopt a responsible palm oil policy that cuts its ties to the destruction of Indonesia's rainforests, extinction, the abuse of workers and communities and climate change.
RAN's Outreach Leader positions provide hands-on-learning about our brand of corporate campaigning for the forests, climate and human rights as well as direct experience working in a non-profit office. Outreach Leaders will be mentored and supported by campaign staff to ensure they are thriving and growing their skills.
Responsibilities of Outreach Leaders may include:
- Participating in strategic phone banking to RAN Palm Oil Activists, inviting and supporting them to take action
- Preparing action materials (e.g. action toolkits) to go out to Palm Oil Activists
- Digital / social media engagement
- Conducting research to investigate corporate targets
- Supporting campaign staff in many different capacities!
RAN values diversity, educates staff on issues including privilege and oppression, and integrates these values into all of our work. We are seeking volunteers who have a commitment to engage in this process and work with us to create a just, inclusive, and sustainable work environment and world. RAN provides all people with equal volunteer opportunities.
Many RAN volunteers have later obtained employment with RAN and at a wide range of social justice and environmental organizations. All volunteer positions are unpaid, and volunteers are responsible for covering their own housing. A travel stipend is provided for each day public transit is used to get to the office. We are flexible with working out a schedule and time commitment that works for you.
