Description

About the Position

ScrapDogs is seeking a part-time employee to join our team! This team member will support daily operations that include driving pickup routes, washing containers, and managing the compost piles. Rewards of the position include flexibility of scheduling; time spent outdoors; and connection with a wide network of friends, customers and community members.


Responsibilities

  1. Completing assigned pickup routes using a truck and trailer, including collecting full buckets of food scraps, delivering finished compost and other products, and inputting relevant data into ScrapDogs’ pickup software.
  2. Participating in regular wash days, including pre-rinsing buckets and toters with a hose, operating a commercial dishwasher, and organizing inventory.
  3. Operating skid steer in order to turn and organize compost piles, and managing and recording pile status.
  4. Participating in other team tasks, including filling compost sacks, monitoring vermicompost (worm) bins, warehouse cleanup days, community events, and more.
  5. Communicating with customers on pickup routes in a kind and respectful manner.
  6. Driving carefully and responsibly throughout the mid-coast and Kennebec Valley.
  7. Clearly communicating with ScrapDogs staff regarding availability. 


Scheduling & Hours

This is a part-time position (approximately 20 hrs/wk) that will have varying hours from week to week and over the course of the year. Typical work days run from 8:30am-4:30pm, with flexibility.


Qualifications

  • Valid drivers’ license
  • Responsible driving record
  • Reliable communication
  • Enthusiastic work ethic
  • Interest in sustainability, food systems or agriculture
  • Experience with equipment such as tractors, trailers, dishwashers is a plus, but not required; training is offered on all equipment.


Please note: This can be demanding, dirty work that may not be for everyone, as it involves lifting, lowering, and emptying buckets and containers that can weigh up to 40 pounds; multiple hours driving pickup vehicles; and operating other machinery.
