Part-time Grant Manager (Bilingual in Japanese or Portuguese)

Who we are and what we do

Canary is a mission-driven enterprise, contributing to the evolution of the 21st century social safety net to ensure that, in times of financial need, individuals can access emergency funds with dignity. Grant Circle is our emergency relief fund platform that facilitates fundraising, processing grant requests, disbursing cash grants to individuals experiencing financial hardship, and impact measurement. 

The role

This role provides a unique opportunity to work across different parts of Canary’s business. You will interact with grant applicants and work cross-functionally with the entire Canary team to ensure that all grant applicant needs are being met. The Grant Manager will play a pivotal role on this early-stage start-up team, with significant opportunity for growth and advancement as we grow.  

• Grant management & customer service: 75% of the role
• Evaluate grant applications while providing timely, appropriate, and high-quality support through email and by phone to help applicants who have requested a grant
• Ensure documentation is complete to comply with program requirements. 
• Learn the in’s and out’s of our emergency relief fund platform to provide high-quality support to applicants requesting grants.
• Help track patterns and learnings from your communication with applicants and grant management so that we can improve our service. 
• Quality assurance and other special projects: 25% of the role
• Test the website to make sure it’s working as we expect  
• Testing new website features prior to launch to ensure they are working as expected and assisting with qualitative user research (example: note-taking during interviews with end-users).
• Help us to translate copy and write new copy to reflect the needs of an international audience 

Role structure

• Pay range is $20 – $25 per hour
• This is currently a part-time, contract role that does not include benefits such as health insurance, but will have the possibility of turning into a full-time role provided volume.
• Time commitment: 15 – 20 hours/week – with the potential to expand during times of peak demand and/or expand into a full-time role as Canary grows.
• While scheduling of hours is somewhat flexible, the role does require reliable hours 5 days per week, including Saturday and Sunday (though weekend time commitment will be less than weekday). 
• This is a U.S.-based remote role with the opportunity to engage in-person.

• Bilingual in Portuguese and/or Japanese, with strong written and verbal communication skills and experience adapting language and communication style for populations with varying levels of proficiency.
• Experience in financial services or fintech is a plus
