About FMA

Fiscal Management Associates (FMA) is a growth-oriented management consulting firm dedicated to building the capacity of the nonprofit sector. Our team works with leaders who are organizing youth movements, fighting against racial and gender inequities, using art for civic engagement, and providing fundamental services to those who need it most, to name a few. Our consulting and training services have consistently earned recognition for their pragmatism and relevance.

Position Overview

As an FMA Consulting Fellow, you will work with consulting staff in project teams to deliver services to a diverse client base. Projects may include infrastructure assessments, business planning, process design, training support, development of policies and procedures, software selection and configuration, and other tailored services. You can expect to learn project management, service delivery, and client relationship management firsthand. Additionally, you will gain exposure to the breadth and depth of organizations in the social sector and work collaboratively with a dynamic team.

Consulting Fellows are paid an hourly rate of $25 per hour for 10 weeks, full-time, over the course of the summer. Positions are available in the New York and Oakland offices.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Drafting reports and actionable recommendations
  • Participating in client engagements and presentations as part of a project team
  • Supporting the planning and implementation of financial systems and practices
  • Designing new business processes
  • Providing guidance and analytical support with respect to financial trends analyses and planning, including conducting grantee financial due diligence for foundations

Who You Are

  • You are a graduate student pursuing an MPA, MPP, MBA or similar degree; or have a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field with a minimum of two years of relevant work experience
  • You are an excellent communicator, both in writing and orally, with a track record of building strong relationships 
  • You possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • You have experience in consulting, finance, nonprofit, accounting or other operational functions (preferred)
  • You are detail-oriented 
  • You are open to receiving direct feedback, and can seamlessly incorporate feedback into your work
  • You have a track record of managing multiple priorities
  • You are committed to FMA’s mission of social sector capacity building
