TrailBlaze Creative, (TBC) an independent marketing and communications firm, seeks a talented individual to assist in developing new and unique marketing journeys for our clients. As a firm dedicated to lifting up the communities in which we serve, our team members have a passion for solving community challenges using marketing, communications, and technology to find success. While this job description is titled for a “Director of Marketing” position, you will actually be serving in this role for our clients. Many organizations, especially the new and small organizations with whom we work, lack the internal capacity for strategic guidance of marketing and communications activities.

 

The TrailBlaze Marketing Director-in-ResidenceSM model provides the capacity needed, both strategic and tactical, to manage the regular needs of an organization. TrailBlaze appoints one person to serve as the Marketing Director for organizations. This Director attends internal team meetings, represents the organization to external stakeholders as appropriate, provides strategic marketing direction and planning, and prioritizes and manages the tactical needs of the organization. Augmenting the marketing capacity gap with our professional Marketing Director-in-Residence, organizations receive executive-level strategic guidance and the project management necessary to implement the strategy. Our professionals work to understand the needs of the brand and organization and craft a strategy to systematically address the needs of the organization.

 

So, you will be serving as a Marketing Director for several organizations. But, we are also a small firm, so we pitch in together on all kinds of projects. Our entire team has a strategic mindset, but we are also comfortable in website code, graphic design, developing communications, and social media. We are agile, flexible, and work with passion to adopt any and all challenges for our clients as our own. We want the same from you!

 

Skillset Must-haves

  • Compassion for nonprofits and familiarity with nonprofit management and their many challenges
  • Ability to create, articulate, and manage marketing campaigns
  • Ability to work with multiple teams remotely
  • Significant attention to details in design and content
  • Strong sense of marketing theory, strategy, and practice to provide guidance beyond the basic design (proactive…not reactive)
  • Strong project management and communications skills
  • Identify problems and develop creative and affordable solutions to address them
  • Ability to see the big picture and how small actions impact the big picture
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite to include InDesign, PhotoShop, Illustrator, at a minimum
  • Ability to understand, develop, and optimize audience/customer pathways, calls to action, and ongoing engagement strategies
  • Specific experience working with nonprofits, community organizations, and small businesses
  • A creative mind
  • Innovative, entrepreneurial mindset
  • Honesty, integrity, and a kind heart
  • A passion for communities—their structures and their people
  • Social and networking capabilities, ability to collaborate with all levels of professionals
  • Ability to identify problems and brainstorm solutions
  • Strong project management skills, time management, and work ethic
  • 6-8  years professional, full-time experience
  • A willingness to learn and collaborate
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google tools
  • (Last but perhaps most important) Our team has a passion for learning, collaboration, and our work. Our clients do AMAZING things. You must have a passion for communities, people, and making systems better for communities and people. We love people with a similar passion for this work.

 

Skillset Nice to haves

  • Training or experience in design thinking/human-centered design
  • Skills in social media strategy and administration
  • Proficiency in building websites
  • Familiarity with economic development principles

 

This position will primarily telecommute (especially in the current environment), however, some in-person meetings may occur throughout the Pittsburgh region. Our preference is to work with a candidate that is able to travel to these meetings in person. It is important that candidates have access to internet access and phone access. Since regular meetings with TrailBlaze leadership and clients are also expected, access to periodic transportation is required.
