Envoys is seeking a Field Director to join its full-time team. The Field Director will support Envoys operations in the field through recruiting, hiring, training, and supporting our field educators throughout the year. They will play a key role in developing the organization's capacity to deliver the highest quality global education programs to our partner schools.

FIELD DIRECTOR

Goals

  • Recruit, hire, train, and support our cohort of seasonal field educators
  • Foster a community of practice and a spirit of learning and growth amongst the team
  • Bring creative vision to the content and practices of our online and in-person field educator training


Responsibilities 

  • Program Staffing
  • Lead the recruiting and hiring of new field staff on a running basis
  • Training and professional development of field staff 
  • Update and manage content for the Online Staff Training Camp
  • Co-design, organize, plan and implement our staff training both in-person and remotely
  • Program Support
  • Support our cohort of seasonal field educators before, during and after programs
  • Before programs, coordinate scouting logistics
  • Evaluate staff performance and provide feedback
  • Continually develop feedback processes
  • Risk Management
  • During programs, ensure checklist submission and monitor RM practices
  • During programs, be in constant communication with the field for coaching and general problem-solving
  • Oversee emergency management during “high season" (February to April)
  • Provide administrative support
  • Collect, file, and maintain up-to-date information on vaccination records, travel documents, wilderness first aid certifications
  • Coordinating contracts for independent contractors (field staff)
  • Work collaboratively to organize, manage movements, store, and purchase new gear and supplies throughout the seasonal operational cycle
  • Organizational Growth
  • Attend risk management conferences and/or seminars to continue developing best practices for Envoys, often creating proposals to present at those conferences
  • Continually evaluate and improve the gear provided to field educators to make them successful on a variety of urban and rural programs, domestic and international
  • Work with the Education team to support the design of curriculum and give perspective on its feasibility for use in the field.


Required qualifications

  • 2-5 years of experience in a leadership role in experiential and/or field-based education
  • Extremely high attention to detail in digital organizational efforts around coordinating staff communication
  • Deep understanding of educational philosophy, inquiry-based education, and experiential education
  • Proficiency in Google Suite products, especially Google Docs and Google Sheets
  • 100+ days in the field with students on educational or outdoor programming, preferably with substantial international experience
  • Demonstrated experience with hiring and training new employees
  • Dedication to making work visible to the wider team in a distributed work environment, communicating robustly with multiple departments
  • Hard-working professional with advanced social skills and willingness to step in as needed
  • Possesses excellent writing skills with fluency in contemporary conversations in the field of global education
  • Deeply passionate about global education
  • Willingness to travel 1.5+ months per year (cumulative)
  • Experience with cross-cultural communication in various contexts


Desired qualifications

  • Possesses Wilderness First Responder Certification
  • WFR Instructor, WEMT, or other advanced wilderness medicine training
  • Proficiency in several foreign languages (Spanish preferred)

  • This position is remote worldwide, with a preference for candidates living between time zones ET (UTC-4 ) and PT (UTC -7)
