March on Washington Film Festival seeks an experienced Development Manager to help make its 10th Anniversary a landmark program.

In an on-air MSNBC interview, Eugene Robinson, Associated Editor of The Washington Post, said, “The March on Washington Film festival (is) a great event.” The nation’s leading festival of its kind, we share the stories of the icons and foot soldiers of the Civil Rights Movement. MOWFF is equally dedicated to providing platforms and professional development for the changemakers of tomorrow through our workshops, panels, and educational outreach.

Position Overview

The successful candidate will have experience in researching and prospecting funding opportunities among corporate, foundation-based, governmental, and individual donors. As our Development Manager, you will be responsible for all of our vital revenue streams, which help advance our mission and maximize our impact in the community. Our Development Manager plans and organizes annual fundraising activities in conjunction with our Executive Director.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and grow long-term relationsh­ips with existing donors
  • Identify and build relationships with new and prospects
  • Manage systems and software to track and cultivate donors and prospects, including our donor database and wealth screening tools
  • Write grants and proposals to secure funding from corporations, foundations, and government entities
  • Maximize donors’ funding goals at Festival time and beyond
  • Help develop and execute an annual fundraising plan 
  • Generate ideas that increase revenue and donor loyalty
  • Report on program progress to senior management and the board

Your experience should include:

  • 5 years’ successively responsible experience in development for a non-profit institution
  • Bachelor’s degree; master’s in non-profit management or related field a plus
  • Keen understanding of the civil rights movement’s history and a personal interest in social justice
