Founded in 1964, Stephen Wise Temple is one of the largest Reform Jewish synagogues and schools in the world. Teen Program Coordinator (Part-Time)
As we continue to explore new models to engage our teens beyond their b’nai mitzvah, we are looking for a part-time team member to help us design, implement, and connect our teen students to appropriate and meaningful programs and experiences. More than anything, we are looking for a connector – someone who can develop and nurture appropriate relationships with and for our teens. Specific job responsibilities include:
WTY (Wise Temple Youth):
- Work with Director of Religious School, Director of Congregational Engagement, and clergy to redesign and implement a new model for our current Wise Temple Youth (7-12 grade program)
- Advise WTY Student board; encourage their leadership of aspects of WTY programs
- Plan and staff WTY gatherings, including NFTY weekend events
- With Director of Congregational Engagement, implement strategic retention and recruitment initiatives
- Encourage participation in NFTY regional and national programming
- Manage WTY budget, including appropriate forecasting, with input from Director of Religious School and Director of Congregational Engagement
- With office manager, track enrollments and follow-up with students/families
- Implement social action/service learning programming within WTY
- Teen Madrichim (Religious School teen teaching assistants):
- Hire, supervise, and evaluate high school Madrichim staff
- Implement curriculum for Madrichim program in conjunction with Director of Religious School
- Hire and supervise teen staff for CYE programs, including Family Camp and High Holy Day programming
- Recruit student participants for our TALAVI twinning program
- Assist TALAVI coordinators with logistics
- Staff TALAVI delegation visit in Los Angeles
- Family Camp:
- Assist in general planning and execution of Family Camp
- Manage teen program track for Family Camp as needed
- Staff Family Camp as cabin supervisor; assist with general logistics
*TALAVI: Part of the Jewish Federation of Los Angeles School Twinning Program, TALAVI (Tel Aviv-Los Angeles-Vilnius, Lithuania) brings together teens from the three countries in an effort to show our teens Jewish life across the world; to build community; forge lifelong friendships; and educate our students about Jewish history and culture. The partnership allows teens to host Jewish students from Tel Aviv, Israel and Vilnius, Lithuania and to travel to each city.
- 3-5 Years previous work experience
- High school diploma required; minimum 2 years of higher education preferred
- Strong leadership, organizational, and program planning skills
- A dynamic and engaging personality
- The ability to work enthusiastically and innovatively with youth gained through experience working with youth in formal and informal settings
- Passion and maturity for building meaningful and appropriate relationships and community with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Proven capacity to serve as a positive role model of Jewish values
- Ability to work independently, to effectively manage collaborative programs and initiatives, and to work as part of a professional team
- A strong work ethic, sense of humor, growth mindset, and interest in trying new things and learning from mistakes
- Attention to detail, flexibility, and adaptability
- Excellent communication skills, including proficiency in utilizing social media and technology for engagement and collaboration
