We are seeking a motivated, personable, self-directed, and detail-oriented Associate for Grants and Planning to join our team. Our grant writing and planning team works closely with our clients to write complex, highly competitive grant and contract applications and design strategic, business, community, and organizational development plans. Given the small size of our firm, this position offers the opportunity for hands-on engagement with multiple projects and for professional growth.
The Associate is responsible for coordinating and implementing planning and grant writing activities, such as literature reviews, needs/assets data collection, data analysis, cogent grant and report writing, budget development, meeting facilitation, and strategic planning. The position involves cross-disciplinary work and will offer opportunities to explore an array of subject areas, methodologies, and best practices. The Associate will report to the Director of Grants and Planning and work closely with other highly skilled staff in a self-directed work group.
This position will be remote/work from home for the foreseeable future. However, the Associate will be expected to attend periodic staff meetings at our Berkeley office and to occasionally meet with clients and/or conduct community engagement and data collection activities in person throughout the San Francisco Bay Area.
The Associate candidate has…
Demonstrated experience in grant, technical, and/or professional writing .
Advanced degree in social sciences, education, public health, social work, journalism, or another applicable field, or at least five years of equivalent work experience.
Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.·
Demonstrated ability to partner effectively with communities and organizations that are diverse in terms of race, ethnicity, language, culture, socioeconomic status, gender, sexual identity, and differential ableness.·
Outstanding oral and written communication skills, including the ability to convey complex findings and concepts in ways that are accessible to all stakeholders.·
Ability to interact dynamically, courteously, and professionally with diverse client groups and community stakeholders in the community, online, and on the phone.·
Demonstrated experience facilitating meetings, focus groups, and multi-stakeholder budget development in potentially contentious, deadline-driven situations.
Knowledge of facilitation techniques both in-person and virtually.·
Ability to work respectfully and listen deeply to all constituents and stakeholders in order to ensure the accuracy and positive impact of our consulting services.·
Strong attention to detail and excellent follow-through.·
Demonstrated ability to establish and sustain professional client relations.·
Strong project management and organizational skills, including the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple projects at once, and prioritize tasks in order to meet deadlines.·
Demonstrated familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)·

Preferred qualifications include…·
Experience working in a public or nonprofit health, social service, criminal justice, or educational setting.
Experience and familiarity with projects at the intersection of multiple disciplines.
Knowledge of local communities, services, and their social and economic contexts in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Experience working with BIPOC communities .
Significant work experience in or knowledge of the social determinants of health, educational best practices, and non-profit sectors.
Budgeting skills – ability to construct complex, multi-year budgets.
Familiarity with logic models and theories of change in social sciences .
Experience using video conferencing for meetings, focus groups, and/or personal interviews.·
Oral and written fluency in Spanish, Cantonese, Vietnamese, or other languages used widely in the Bay Area.
Primary responsibilities include…·
Serving as lead consultant on all aspects of grant and/or planning projects.
Collaborating with team members and clients to plan and write complex governmental grants.
Collaborating with team members and clients to plan and write complex community plans, strategic plans, and other multi-sectorial plans.
Exercising flexibility regarding diversity of projects, assisting and supporting team members, and performing tasks necessary to produce high quality work.
Maintaining collaborative and positive relationships with clients and team members, with open and clear lines of communication.
Developing, coordinating, and conducting data collection activities designed to inform plans and grant applications – including administering surveys, conducting interviews, performing observations, facilitating focus groups, and other methods in person or virtually as appropriate for each project.
Salary & Benefits
This is a full-time, exempt position. The Associate salary range is between $65-75K per year plus
medical/dental benefits, paid time off, life insurance, long-term disability insurance, and 401K. Annual bonuses are paid to employees depending on the overall performance of the company and the employee’s tenure with the company This position will be largely virtual, but employees may be required to attend occasional staff meetings and/or client meetings as long as these meetings are deemed safe based on employee health status, and current CDC or local government guidance. Employees are provided with an office computer and supplies and a monthly home office stipend.
