ABOUT Growing Inland Achievement

Growing Inland Achievement (GIA) is a collective impact collaborative whose mission is to improve the long-term economic outlook of the Inland Empire region of Southern California through improving educational attainment rates. This mission is achieved through a shared vision and intentional collaboration of the two major university systems, 12 community colleges, and workforce and community organizations. This organization carries out its work with a collective impact mindset coordinating the regional education network; focusing on long term student success. GIA is looking for a dynamic person to join their team, someone that shares the commitment to its mission to serve as our Director of Development and Communications.

POSITION OVERVIEW

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Director of Development and Communications would be integral to two focus areas of Growing Inland Achievement: Building the Sustainability of the Organization and Telling the Region’s Story. The ideal candidate needs to possess distinct skills that can manage and execute both critical areas for the future expansion of the network across the Inland Empire. In manners related to program implementation, the Director of Communications and Development will work side by side with the Senior Director. This position will manage and implement development and strategic communications. This would include creating a development plan that includes defining fund-raising goals and prospect management as well as leading the strategic communication programs and media relations. 

 ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Development

  • Create and implement a Development & Fundraising plan with focus on prioritizing processes.
  • Manage the grant development process by creating grant reports and overseeing the grant writer on research and proposal writing.
  • Develop and cultivate contacts with individual donors, foundations and community organizations.
  • Develop annual plan for assigned events and projects, including goals, objectives and follow-up.
  • Work with the team to refine our business plan focused on long term organizational sustainability.

Communications

  • Develop and implement external and internal communications strategy and workplan.
  • Create and lead the production of newsletters, annual reports, marketing and outreach materials and development collateral.
  • Oversee the vision of social media strategy and outreach, including managing blog posts and posts to social media platforms.
  • Create/manage Board communications as well as funders.
  • Develop GIA website content.
  • Lead the organization in crafting the Region’s Story.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field, Master’s degree preferred.
  • 5+ years related results-oriented fundraising and donor cultivation experience and/or proven experience in developing a communication strategy for an organization.
  • Experience in fundraising or communications for the non-profit education space highly preferred.
  • Superior leadership, organizational and planning skills.
  • Demonstrated time management skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks, establish priorities and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Entrepreneurial and innovative mindset.
  • Team player that has the ability to be flexible in their approach.
  • Team player who understands that for small organizations oftentimes all hands are needed to carry out programming.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to develop and maintain relationships.
  • Ability to travel in and around the Inland Empire.

Salary is commensurate with experience.
