Hart Research Associates, one of the nation’s leading public opinion research firms, is seeking a Senior Graphic Designer with a specialization in information design to bring a fresh, modern approach to our data-driven client-facing deliverables, website, and marketing collateral. The primary responsibility of the Senior Designer will be to design and produce all visual presentations and graphics conveying our research findings for our client-facing deliverables. With proven experience in information design and/or data visualization techniques, the Senior Designer will collaborate closely with our expert researchers to translate our proprietary data and insights into appealing, intuitive, and effective visuals that clearly make the point or tell a story.  

This new position holds the opportunity for innovation and leadership. The Senior Designer will report directly to the CEO and will be an integral part of an executive team to revamp the company’s overall creative look and help establish new standards and procedures to produce all visual client-facing deliverables.

The ideal candidate is a seasoned professional with distinctive graphic design talent and a keen ability to understand and visually display analytical data using a variety of information design and data visualization applications.

ABOUT THE JOB:

Design and produce a variety of unique deliverables (e.g., technical charts/graphs/tables, infographics, PowerPoint presentations, and data visualizations) that communicate our quantitative and qualitative research findings in clear, accessible, compelling ways using a variety of design and data visualization platforms and applications.

  • Collaborate with and advise our expert research analysts on the most effective way to showcase the research findings visually for written briefs/reports, client presentations, new business proposals and public release.  
  • Recommend and utilize new data visualization techniques to maximize the value of our research through clear, impactful visual presentation of the data.
  • Be the in-house expert (and stay up to date) on information design and data visualization techniques/applications.
  • Evaluate current methods and processes for presenting our research findings visually and make recommendations to enhance client deliverables.
  • Contribute design expertise and serve on a committee to establish a consistent and distinctive look for all client-facing deliverables and company collateral, including the redesign of the company website.

ABOUT YOU:

You are looking for work that matters in a firm that cares about progressive issues and you bring: 

  • 5+ years of relevant experience
  • Undergraduate degree BA/BS/BFA
  • Portfolio demonstrating robust design knowledge/abilities with emphasis on information design and effective infographics and proven ability to display complex data in a simple, accessible way
  • Expertise in PowerPoint with use of multiple masters, color themes, creating a range of graphs (e.g., bar, pie, line, scatterplot, dot plot, dumbbell, scatterplot) and charts
  • Demonstrated ability to distill quantitative and qualitative findings to communicate compelling stories to diverse audiences with stunning charts, templates, graphs, and infographics.
  • Fluency in Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat)
  • Working knowledge of web-based technologies and platforms
  • Proven work experience as a lead designer or similar leadership role
  • Ability to provide excellent design direction, but also willing to receive feedback and take direction
  • Ability to work quickly and efficiently under tight deadlines
  • Self-starter with the ability to work under minimal supervision (takes initiative and looks for process efficiencies whenever possible)
  • Team player, ready to work with a dedicated and fast-moving team  
  • Passionate learner, curious about the world and current events, and has a demonstrated interest in progressive causes

 Additional knowledge, skills, abilities that would put your application ahead of other candidates:

  • Familiarity with polling/survey data
  • Experience with data journalism, visual journalism, and associated tools
  • Proficiency in ggplot2 in R and other R visualization packages
  • Fluency with Tableau or another data visualization software applications

Essential Physical Requirements of the Job:

The environmental factors and/or physical requirements of this position include the following: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to have ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to climb and descend multiple flights of stairs, visit other locations; and the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 5-15 pounds. Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and ability to use a keyboard. The employee frequently is required to be in one position for long periods of screen use, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear both in person and over devices. The employee interacts in close spaces and frequently with other workers, vendors, and clients. The position works in an office environment with artificial light and air.
