MRA is a creative and design agency based in Phnom Penh, Cambodia since 2012. It proposes expertise in two fields of activity: social impact and experience design. The agency focuses on projects which require an “out-of-the-box” thinking and a bespoke approach, and for which strategy, as defined hereafter, plays a central role. With this regard, MRA is currently looking for an ambitious Senior Design Strategist who will strengthen its capacity in the field and contribute to the overall development of the agency.


MRA understands “strategy”, within the context of the design process, as the capacity to articulate and prioritize the overall goals of the projects, the specific needs of the client and the expertise offered by the agency in terms of design and application.

The ultimate aim of the design strategy at MRA is to deliver effective, original and high-quality design that answers to client’s expectations and expand the quality standards of the agency, while taking time and financial constraints into account. The main task of the Senior Design Strategist is to apply a coherent strategy to all projects it is involved with, irrespectively of their field of design and of their specific outcome.

In practical terms, the Senior Design Strategist is involved in projects from the earliest stages. He/She contributes to pitching ideas and drafting concepts for bids and commercial proposals. He/She actively participates to projects kick-off meetings and to lead and sustain the creative team’s ideation output. He/She puts the user or audience at the heart of his/her thinking process, and ensures that the design output meets the needs of the user in priority.

He/She drafts strategy frameworks to guide the creative team throughout the design process, and ensures that all creative deliverables match with the initial strategy. He/She take an active part in the production of the final deliverables by drafting creative guidelines and frequently reviewing the creative team’s output until it is shared with the client. All along the process, he/she will work hand in hand with the Project Manager to manage, to assist (for example in presenting or explaining and justifying the creative choices to the client), and/or to adapt the creative strategy in view of the client’s feedback.


MRA’s projects are diverse and cover a large breadth of design fields, from campaigns for the social sector to branding and brand experiences to the scenography of exhibitions and museums. The successful candidate possesses a strong and versatile background in strategy. It is essential that he/she be familiar with different outputs of design across various applications and media.

In addition, he/she is a natural collaborator. He/she assists the project manager in interfacing with major clients and partners throughout the design process. He/She is confident, flexible, resilient and has experience working with interdisciplinary teams where harmonious and effective collaboration is a must.

Finally, he/she demonstrates excellent leadership qualities. He/She keeps the creative team motivated throughout the creative process, and never hesitates to clarify the minutiae of his/her strategies while never losing track of the bigger picture. A smooth collaborator, he/she has the knack for maximizing the talents of the creative team and takes the time to improve the capacities of junior designers by suggesting new ideas and engaging in mentoring process.


Insights, Strategy and methodology

  • Write the strategy frameworks by analyzing the user and the context, the different behaviors and how the user act within the context to understand their latent needs using an empathic approach
  • Define and refine the frameworks and methodology during all the different steps of the project, from research to final production.
  • Be a facilitator/conductor in co-creation workshops with clients, managing team idea generation sessions, leading internal multidisciplinary teams workshop
  • Develop creative programs and present design concepts direction to the creative team. Tailor-made the concept in term of positioning and creativity
  • Ensure the consistency of a campaign and the follow-up with the creative team. Every action that the campaign does has to be thought of and designed with the same coherence within the same framework.
  • Support the story-telling of a project. Storytelling strategy is all about the big picture: laying the foundation of the narrative, identifying the audiences for who the stories speak to and setting the tone of voice. This across media and application, both for experiences and campaigns.
  • Contribute to the development of scenography with relevant creative addition such as interactive experiences or displays. Knowledge of interactive technology (sensors, bare conductive display…) is a plus
  • Special emphasis in digital project by developing innovative effective interactive experiences, creating wireframes and task flows based on user needs


  • Be a stimulus for the team, help develop the agency's people, expand the creative team's ability and confidence
  • Contribute to the constant re-assessment of the agency's quality standards; develop and maintain best practices with the creative team
  • Develop and manage productivity and continuously improve the design team’s production capabilities
  • Contribute to the supervision of design and creative projects to ensure that they are delivered on time and to budget
  • Advance the department's image and market position
  • Contributing to the proposals and their presentations to the stakeholders, give inputs for sales pitches and agency’s sales tools.

  • You have examples of problem-solving where you have lead organizations to arrive at successful design solutions.
  • You are an expert at translating insight into design opportunities within constraints.
  • You are confident and flexible and have experience working in interdisciplinary teams where harmonious collaboration is imperative.
  • You are able to guide the design process from framing a challenge, to research and insights, to concept and implementation.
  • You have experience in understand project’ scope, budget and objectives, define the methodology, team composition and timeline to reach their successful completion
  • You are comfortable interfacing with and leading clients throughout the design process. 


- At least 7 years of (similar) professional experience in the “design industry”

- Professional experience in social fields

- Prior work experience in an Asian country is preferred. Willingness to travel in the Asia region.

- Fluent English language skills required

- Strong interpersonal skills with a track record in working in a team

- Excellent external communication skills

- Ability to prioritize and handle multiple ongoing assignments
