Description

Would you like to work with an organization deeply involved in the core issues of national education policy? Are you energetic, organized, efficient, and able to handle multiple responsibilities simultaneously? Are you eager, curious, and able to adapt to changing circumstances and duties with flexibility and willingness? Can you keep pace in a demanding work environment? If so, you are a candidate to be the next member of our high performing staff. This is a great opportunity for someone interested in advancing his or her career in an organization dedicated to supporting education agencies and institutions through research, policy analysis, and technical assistance.

Overview:

edCount, LLC is a woman-owned small business with multiple long-term contracts serving federal and state governments, universities, research centers, and non-profits. Primary topics of interest at edCount are: education standards, assessment, and accountability systems; education of students with special needs and English learners; the interpretation and implementation of federal and state K-12 education policy; and providing research and technical assistance that will help educators and policymakers to better serve all students.

We are presently seeking individuals with a background in the area of K-12 English language arts’ standards, assessment, curriculum, pedagogy, or teaching who think creatively and analytically, write clearly and convincingly, and can provide support to a variety of large-scale projects focused on standards, assessment and curriculum development and accountability. For this Senior Associate-level position, we require a Master’s degree in English, English Language Arts Education, or equivalent and 5+ years’ extensive experience teaching English language arts courses in a K-12 setting.

We seek candidates with a strong background in English language arts teaching and assessment, including research-based instructional and assessment methodologies that can guide lesson planning and curriculum and assessment development. Candidates must have extensive knowledge of the Common Core State Standards, student skills, current tools and resources, and educational practices in English language arts. Experience designing and implementing formative, interim, and summative classroom and large-scale assessment measures and rubrics to evaluate student performance and progress in English language arts is highly desirable. This expertise may come from a combination of graduate-level research, experience working in an educational setting (e.g., as a teacher, district administrator, higher education, etc.), for an assessment vendor or technical assistance provider, or working in a policy-oriented setting (e.g., for federal or state-level government, education consulting firm, etc.).

Familiarity with learning progressions and the Understanding by Design as research-based approaches to curriculum design, as well as expertise in writing learning activities, performance tasks, and large-scale assessment items to support or enhance students’ learning of English language arts content will be looked upon very favorably. Strong communication, presentation, and project-management and time-management skills are essential to the role.

edCount’s staff, located throughout the U.S., are constantly connected through collaboration software such as Skype for Business, Box, SmartSheet, Adobe Connect, and Nitro PDF. The selected candidate will work in our Washington, D.C. office or, if exceptionally well qualified, telecommute from a home office beyond the greater Washington, D.C. area.
