ABOUT NEW HORIZONS

Located on a beautiful seven-acre campus in North Hills, California, New Horizons provides job training and placement, education, counseling, residential services and social programs to developmentally disabled adults, ensuring each individual to gain confidence, skills, dignity and independence at their highest level.

Founded in 1954 by eight parents whose children had special needs, the agency has evolved to provide services and support each year to more than 1,200 individuals and social/recreational services to nearly 3,000 individuals from throughout the greater San Fernando and Santa Clarita Valleys of Los Angeles.

POSITION OVERVIEW

Reporting to the President/CEO, the Special Initiatives Director will provide project management for a variety of special programs and initiatives, including the GoGrocery Initiative (both locally and nationally), the NH Youth Navigation Center, the Center for Independent Futures (CIF) collaboration, the NH Custodial Training department, accreditation from CARF, and the intake department for members interested in learning more about programs offered. The ideal candidate is a detail and results oriented leader who will inspire those around them and support the Agency’s mission to accomplish the goal of enriching the lives of individuals with special needs.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversees all aspects of New Horizon’s special programs and initiatives, including hiring, supporting and evaluating staff, job coaches, volunteers and other key stakeholders.
  • Oversees the overall accreditation process for New Horizons, including CARF and government audits, and ensures that the agency is up-to-date on all standards, processes and procedures, manuals, and overall compliance with contracts.
  • Works closely with other departments to ensure that client flow between and among the programs is seamless.
  • Coordinates and develops curriculum for programs, and regularly reviews the content for relevancy and usefulness for the participants.
  • Provides oversight and billing to funding partners to ensure that billing and reporting is completed on-time, accurately and per the budget.
  • Develops clear lines of communication within New Horizons’s staff, and with community partners to ensure that partners feel valued, included and informed.
  • Develops strong connections to community partners, including schools, family members and clients of the agency.
  • Provides analyses of outcomes data to support effective decision-making, presented in a transparent, timely manner.
  • Markets programs to community partners, including schools, other agencies and potential funders.
  • Creates, oversees and provides oversight of the “Member Welcome Center,” Including intakes, documentation, exits, reporting and analysis of trends and issues.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in rehabilitation, human services or a related field required.
  • At least five years of relevant work experience.
  • Must possess strong project management and leadership skills.
  • Organized, dedicated, and innovative.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Must have a self-directed and entrepreneurial spirit
  • Ability to organize, administer and coordinate a program and to act decisively and competently.
  • Act as a champion of the agency philosophy and in the dignity of the individual.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a cooperative and supportive manner with staff, consumers, and the community.
  • Skilled in working as a team and possess strong communication and advocacy skills.
