    Description

    Position Background

    Envoys is seeking part-time, contract staff for our student travel programs in Washington DC for the following dates: March 10 - March 14 | April 27 - May 7 | May 25 - May 30. Preference is given to those who can attend more than one of these program dates. Candidates who are based in and near Washington DC are also given priority, however Envoys will consider qualified candidates who are located outside of Washington DC and will cover the costs of travel.

    Background

    As a member of Envoys field staff, you will work directly with traveling students and teachers to delve into how the various narratives underpinning the nation’s formation serve to alternately reinforce or disrupt our personal understanding of what it means to ‘be an American’. As we examine the institutions, systems, and procedures that comprise the American form of democracy, students consider the foundational tension between individual freedoms and societal good, analyzing how structural decisions made centuries ago impact choices today.

    Key Attributes

    The selected candidate will perform effectively in each of these areas:

    • Leading groups of students (aged 12-18) through urban and rural contexts
    • Facilitating discussions and engaging students in learning about their surroundings
    • Managing risks and following procedures to maintain student health, safety, and security
    • Problem-solving for travel changes and activity variations
    • Coordinate travel logistics and services with local providers

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Belief in Envoys’ mission to develop empathic global leaders
    • Enjoyment of traveling and working with people from different cultural backgrounds
    • Ability to work effectively as a member of team to reach a common goal
    • Outgoing, service-oriented personality and ability to handle logistical responsibilities

    Desired Qualifications

    • Experience leading groups of students and teachers on travel programs
    • Geographic, social and cultural knowledge of the program context
    • Advanced medical training (WFA, WFR, EMT, etc.)

    Training and Compensation

    Selected candidates must complete training (online & in-person) as assigned by Envoys. Candidates will be paid at a competitive daily rate for days spent in the field. Daily salary ranges between $150-$225/day commensurate with experience in addition to all travel related expenses. Staff are required to arrive in program location between 1-2 days in advance of programs to prepare to receive groups.

    By leading programs, Envoys field staff expand their instructional experience with students and professional educators, establish connections with top independent schools, and strengthen their logistic and program management skills.
