Bright Research Group is recruiting a Senior Consultant to lead the group’s evaluation practice. Founded in 2010, Bright Research Group (BRG) is a community-centered design and research firm based in Oakland, CA. Our mission is to help social impact efforts become more responsive to the needs, preferences, behaviors, strengths, and voices of consumers and communities. A women and minority-owned firm and a certified small local emerging business in Alameda County, we hold a specific organizational commitment to advancing social equity for African American and Latin@ communities. We do this by:

  • Elevating the voices, lived experience, preferences, and choices of people of color through participatory action research and qualitative evaluation methods;
  • Building system and funder-understanding of and empathy for people of color through consumer research;
  • Making the case for consumer and community-driven initiatives, programs and movements through quantitative and qualitative evaluation and advocacy;
  • Building the capacity of systems to integrate people with lived experience into their social change efforts and workforces; and
  • Building the capacity of people of color- and consumer-led organizations to define their practices and programs, achieve greater organizational sustainability, and become more outcome- driven.

 

Duties

This is a senior management level position that will be responsible for leading and cultivating Bright Research Group’s evaluation practice. Our current portfolio is comprised of public health, youth development, and equity related social innovation evaluation projects funded by public agencies and foundations. The evaluation lead will be responsible for managing a portfolio of evaluation projects, developing innovative approaches to evaluation in line with our social and racial equity mission, cultivating our brand and business, and supervising junior level staff. Key duties include:

·      Plan, implement, and manage research and evaluation projects

·      Develop data collection protocols for qualitative research activities

·      Conduct analysis of quantitative and qualitative data

·      Coordinate research activities, including scheduling and planning of field research activities

·      Conduct field research (observations, focus groups, and key informant interviews) with low-income, African American, and Latino consumers and program stakeholders

·      Conduct user research with consumers of public services

·      Facilitate community meetings, focus groups and other consumer research activities

·      Conduct research and write literature reviews on a variety of topic areas in the health and human services sector

·      Facilitate evaluation capacity building activities, including Theory of Change validation, building capacity to use data for learning, information management and infrastructure assessment, and performance management tool development

·      Facilitate trainings and technical assistance activities to support participatory action research, community organizing, and improved capacity to use data for learning

·      Synthesize and summarize research and evaluation results; prepare preliminary findings; develop powerpoints, reports, and briefs to communicate findings to external audiences

·      Manage client relationship on specific projects, including developing and implementing strategies to communicate with the client on progress towards deliverables, overall scope of work, and workplans

·      Provide clients with strategic guidance to improve program impact and quality

·      Project manage deliverables; develop workplans and coordinate with research team on project timing and execution. Supervise staff and consultants

·      Support business development activities


Qualifications

Required Education

·      Masters Degree in Public Health, Public Administration, Public Policy, Anthropology, Sociology, Liberal Arts, or other relevant field and at least seven years of similar work experience.

 

Required Skills and Experience

·      Commitment to social equity and justice

·      Knowledge of community health, public health, and community development

·      Prior experience conducting research and evaluation in applied settings

·      Prior training on quantitative and qualitative analysis

·      Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

·      Strong typing skills- ability to type and interview at the same time

·      Strong oral and written communication skills

·      Ability to manage work, self-start and work independently

·      Ability to analyze and synthesize complex information

·      Ability to work as part of a team.

 

Desired Skills and Experience

·      Knowledge of and experience with publicly or privately funded programs in the areas of public health, community health, youth development, violence prevention, consumer and family driven care, and public safety;

·      Primary knowledge of and/or experience with California’s diverse populations and communities served by publicly and privately funded programs;

·      Passion for improving outcomes for low-income and historically underserved communities;

·      Bilingual, Spanish, desired
