About this Role

We are excited to expand our small but mighty team by bringing on our fifth full-time teammate. The Assistant Account Manager will support client accounts by producing detailed deliverables, preparing for and contributing to client meetings, conducting research and analysis, responding to client communications, and all other facets of efficiently and effectively shepherding work forward and delighting clients while doing so. The ideal candidate will be able to seamlessly toggle between 30,000-foot strategy and in-the-weeds details, and between accounts. The Assistant Account Manager should be passionate about work that centers underserved and overlooked communities and have experience in bringing a justice lens to the work. He/she/they will have the innate drive to run the ball down the field as far as one can, but the emotional maturity to know when it makes sense to check in internally with a teammate. We pride ourselves on having a collaborative and all-hands-on-deck work culture – that is, from developing high-level strategy to printing out nametags the morning of a public event, all team members roll up their sleeves and work together to get the job done.

The position is typically based out of a beautiful client office in the Flatiron neighborhood of New York City, but our team has learned to operate remotely over these past two years. Given our current comfort with remote work, we are excited to hear from qualified applicants both in and outside of the New York City area.

Responsibilities include:

  • Actively supporting project leads in the day-to-day of managing client accounts, which includes keeping track of a timeline of next steps, quickly and accurately responding to client requests, taking detailed notes during client meetings, and more.
  • Actively engaging in internal and external meetings to strategize, brainstorm, and provide input on ongoing tasks and deliverables.
  • Preparing and presenting client deliverables (e.g., PowerPoint presentations, research reports, Excel workbooks), inclusive of the research, analysis, and administrative tasks that contribute to these deliverables.
  • Administrative tasks as assigned, including scheduling meetings with internal and external parties, taking meeting notes, tracking contacts, and other similar tasks.
  • Building the capacity of a young firm, from editing proposals to enhancing internal processes to representing the firm at external functions.
  • Sharing responsibility for account budgets and timelines.

A qualified applicant will:

  • Demonstrate superior analytical and organizational skills, including attention to detail and a commitment to rigor.
  • Be a smart generalist possessing high levels of independence and intrinsic motivation.
  • Possess advanced skills in PowerPoint, Excel, and Word; knowledge of Foundant, SurveyMonkey, Doodle, WordPress and Constant Contact is also desirable.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, as well as possess outstanding interpersonal skills. To be clear, strong writing skills are absolutely critical.
  • Be a positive individual who maintains composure under pressure and when receiving direct feedback from colleagues and clients.
  • Demonstrate strong critical thinking skills in answering research questions using existing frameworks or by creating new ones.
  • Be comfortable working in a constantly evolving small business environment.
  • Be entrepreneurial.
  •  Have a strong academic background.
  • Have a willingness to travel; travel requirements vary by client.
  • Up to two years of management consulting or account/program management experience is preferred.
  • Have experience working in, or substantial interest in, the social impact space. Current SSA accounts focus on a diverse range of social impact topics: social innovation, early childhood development, immigration and economic opportunity, and workers’ rights.
