Who You Are

You have at least seven years of experience designing and conducting mixed methods evaluations for and with foundations and nonprofit organizations in the social sector. You have experience as a consultant and team leader, and you have played a lead role in at least a handful of theory of change or strategic planning processes. You will complement a team of professionals with various strengths, experiences, and types of expertise. You will have the opportunity to lead some projects with limited oversight.

As a strategic thinker, you:

  • Draw on a deep well of content knowledge and evaluation skills to inform strategies, learning, and equity with clients in the social sector
  • Are not afraid of being wrong and are open to changing your mind in the face of evidence.
  • Engage in rigorous, empathetic, and critical thinking.
  • Provide facilitation and guidance for organizations, and community and collaborative groups.
  • Develop high-quality reports and findings, write clearly and compellingly, and conceptualize visuals to tell the story behind data.

As a business developer, you:

  • Listen well, ask good questions, and consider things from others’ perspectives in order to understand what will be most understandable and persuasive.
  • Present to clients and groups with comfort and ease.
  • Contribute your expertise to designing new client projects and writing proposals.
  • Nurture client relationships and spark new ones.
  • Incorporate your vision for the work you want to do into the context of our broader goals and aspirations.

As a team leader, you:

  • Excel at task delegation as well as time, budget, and overall project management.
  • Actively promote and contribute to a positive work environment for diverse team members.
  • Recognize team members’ strengths, contribute to their professional development and support their growth opportunities.
  • Manage up, down, and across team roles—this role supports and reports to the company’s co-directors.
  • Contribute your ideas and energy to our company as we evolve to meet the future needs of our field.

Candidate Qualifications & Experience

  • At least seven years of professional experience designing and conducting mixed methods evaluations
  • Experience designing and leading theory of change and strategic planning processes
  • Experience writing for a range of audiences including boards, organization leadership and staff, and communities
  • Experience in project management, particularly in consulting environments
  • Advanced degree or relevant experience in education, public policy, public administration, public health, sociology, anthropology, or a related discipline
  • Experience using information for purposes of problem-solving and decision-making, preferably in the nonprofit or philanthropic sectors
  • Experience with community engagement, participatory research, and facilitation
  • Demonstrated commitment to and engagement with diverse communities of color
  • Experience supervising staff and leading teams
  • Ability to travel locally and nationally (contingent upon post-covid restrictions)

 Compensation & Logistics

  • Salary range is $120,000 - $125,000 annually.
  • Full medical, dental, and vision benefits.
  • Voluntary 401(k) plan with company match.
  • We are adopting a hybrid office model where staff will work in our Berkeley office twice a week.
  • All staff are strongly encouraged to be vaccinated against Covid-19. Staff who are not vaccinated must wear a N-95 mask for their own and others’ protection when we return to the office.
