OPPORTUNITY

Black Fox is seeking a part-time, remote Advancement Specialist (contract) to work closely with our nonprofit clients in engaging funders. Serving as an extension of our clients’ team, the Advancement Specialist helps clients get as close to new funding as possible, as soon as possible. The role varies from project to project ranging from strategic advisory to providing informed, targeted, expert outreach to funders in the clients’ existing pipelines and alongside new funders uncovered in our research phase. 

Our client organizations have powerful missions and visions, and tremendous capacity to have profound impact. Their time is best invested in face-to-face meetings. The objective of the Advancement Specialist is to secure invitations to submit a Letter of Inquiry (LOI) or grant request, and/or to advance relationships with funders by securing key meetings for our client’s primary fundraiser, setting the stage for success in securing funding partnerships.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as a behind-the-scenes expert for input and strategy regarding existing prospects, funders, and overall fundraising approach as needed.
  • Identify funder candidates for meetings at sector convenings.
  • Secure meetings on behalf of clients’ primary fundraiser(s) via video conference, face-to-face, and/or at sector convenings like the Skoll World Forum (varies on a case-by-case basis)
  • Secure invitations to submit LOIs and grant proposals.
  • Regular check-ins with clients on progress, with ability to coach clients on strategic approaches based upon funder profiles and history.
  • Uncover new funding sources via prospect research and drawing from your own expertise during the arc of the client engagement.
  • In collaboration with our communications team members, provide support for messaging and editing of communications materials as needed and appropriate.

  • You have demonstrated expertise in engaging funders in new relationships, specifically in the area of “cold call” prospecting. **We are especially interested in those with experience raising creative funding and dollars from outside of traditional foundations (e..g, blended capital, corporate philanthropy, venture philanthropy, alternative funding, etc.)
  • You can comprehensively digest a new organization and quickly turn around to speak intelligently and compellingly about their mission and programming.
  • You are organized with strong project management skills—self-motivated and able to self-manage, but with strong collaboration skills.
  • You have a strong ability to empathize with a client, assess the funding landscape, think creatively, and uncover new funding sources during the arc of the engagement.
  • You have excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
  • You build and manage relationships based on impeccable integrity.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; exceptions will be made for the right candidate. Masters Degree a plus.
  • Five or more years of work experience focused upon fundraising and development.
  • Grant writing skills a plus.


STRUCTURE

This is a remote, contract role. The time commitment is estimated at 10-20 hours per week but can fluctuate as the work is executed on a project basis, providing a great deal of flexibility for the contractor.
