Description

The Washington Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at Washington State University (WSU) seeks a Technology Business Advisor for our Redmond, Washington location.


The Advisor guides clients in the development of comprehensive business plans, as well as operating plans for management development, market development, organizational structure development, and financial management and financial proposal development.


The Advisor is responsible for delivering in-depth, impact-driven advising and training that result in directly assisting both technology and non-technology based companies and entrepreneurs to succeed in their business growth and commercializing activities. Specific targeted industries include aerospace, value-add agriculture, clean energy, information and communication technology, life sciences and global health as well as others as defined by the State Director. The Advisor will advise clients in the evaluation of new technologies and formation or development of small to medium sized businesses; provide guidance to obtain complex debt capital and equity investment; and assist with the identification and evaluation of business challenges and opportunities. This position also provides assistance and guidance in developing commercialization plans and operating plans for marketing and manufacturing; management and financial proposals. The Advisor will also develop program operational plans designed to attract growth and development technology and growth-oriented clients; coordinate marketing efforts to enhance awareness of and access to Washington SBDC and partner programs; and perform research; data compilation and budget analysis for use in managerial decision making and new project considerations.


The Washington SBDC is a public service organization funded in part by the U.S. Small Business Administration, Washington State University and other Washington institutions of higher education, economic development organizations, and other public and private funding partners. Its network of business advisors, trainers, and support staff have been helping Washington business owners who want to start, grow or transition a business since 1980. We provide in-depth, confidential, no cost customized one-on-one business advising, business training and advisor assisted market intelligence research to help small business achieve their full potential.


Only applicants who are currently eligible to work in the U.S. and meet the minimum qualifications will be considered for the position:

·        Bachelor’s degree in business or a related field

·        Five (5) years of experience in business ownership, business development, business management and/or program development

·        Functional Specialty: Experience in any or all the following: commercializing new technologies, technology start-ups, university-based technology transfer and commercialization, venture capital/angel groups, technology accelerators/incubators or closely related information technology experience

·        Strong computer skills including demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office.

Preferred qualifications include: a master’s degree in business or technical filed related to functional specialty; successful entrepreneurial experience in launching innovative technology-related companies including strategic planning, acquiring funds, marketing and budgeting; Established relationships with the investment community including angel and private equity, venture capital firms, and corporate venture financing; broad understanding of multiple industries and trends; and background in consulting or advising technology based entrepreneurs and companies.
