Investigator

QRI, a private investigations firm headquartered in New York City, is hiring an investigator. Our investigators help clients win high-stakes civil lawsuits; mount successful criminal defense strategies; exonerate the wrongfully convicted; make smarter hiring and investment decisions; root out frauds; and achieve better outcomes in advocacy campaigns.

We are looking for a versatile investigator who has experience with — and enthusiasm for — both research and interviews. This is a lower- or mid-level job with potential for advancement. 

The job is currently remote because of COVID-19, but may revert to in-office, with possible flexibility in future.

You are:

• Tenacious about finding facts and following leads
• Adept with technology and, broadly speaking, good at the internet
• Not afraid to pick up the phone and speak with strangers
• Able to juggle several projects at the same time in a fast-paced environment
• Intellectually curious
• Able to write in clear, clean prose

Ideally, you have:

• Worked for at least two years in a relevant field — journalism, consulting, law, certain kinds of academic research, strategic campaigns 
• Experience locating and understanding public records, such as legal filings, regulatory records, real estate documents, and political campaign filings
• Experience meeting with demanding clients and working collaboratively with coworkers
• Familiarity with databases such as Accurint, Bloomberg, Factiva, PACER, SEC EDGAR, TLO, and Westlaw
• Earned at least an undergraduate degree (JD, MBA, or other relevant graduate degree a plus)

Your responsibilities will be to:

• Find, extract, and analyze information in a variety of public records and open sources
• Find and interview people, both on the phone and in person
• Write reports summarizing your investigative work
• Help manage QRI’s relationships with vendors and subcontractors
• Monitor new developments and trends in the investigative field, such as new databases, investigative techniques, and potential new practice areas

Compensation

The salary for this position is competitive and QRI offers an excellent benefits package, including health / dental / vision insurance, 401(k), etc. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
