Banyan is a woman-owned, health communications agency with 25 years of experience in the design and development of strategic communications solutions for nonprofits, government agencies, foundations, and community organizations. Banyan’s work is driven by our belief that great communications can illuminate thinking, inspire action, motivate positive behavior, and enable individuals and communities to create positive, lasting change in the world.

Banyan is seeking a change agent with a dynamic approach to health communications and project leadership—someone who can partner with non-profit, government, and other clients; is curious and empathetic toward unique audiences; is comfortable working in sensitive topic areas; and can keep a project on strategy, budget, and schedule to ultimately deliver something that helps drive positive social and behavioral change.

Sound like you? If so, read on…

In general, this position requires that you can:

  • Be responsible for project oversight and client management—keeping clients satisfied and delivering exceptional client service on a day-to-day basis
  • Lead ongoing communication with clients. Ensure that Banyan’s work satisfies all contract and client requirements, is of high quality, and remains in-budget and on-time
  • Oversee finances, scheduling, and deliverable quality for projects
  • Schedule, plan, and facilitate meetings with clients and stakeholders to achieve agreed-upon outcomes. Lead the creation of agendas and presentations, provide written and verbal context for deliverables via email or presentation, and deliver notes and action items in a clear, concise format
  • Work with teams to design, develop, and execute on project requirements
  • Develop work plans, requirements documents, briefs, and other foundational documentation to support project execution and strategy
  • Develop and maintain status reports and invoices
  • Organize, review, and synthesize background information and source content; draft backgrounders, briefs, communication and promotional plans, and other documents to help inform the communication solution and other strategic and creative efforts
  • Plan, apply, and evaluate health communications strategies to achieve project objectives
  • Cultivate knowledge, skills, and best practices in topical and technical areas within your projects and contribute knowledge, skills, and best practices to internal strategy/problem solving meetings and deliverable reviews
  • Triage, interpret, and organize feedback from clients; work with internal teams to address feedback and develop strategic solutions while ensuring feasibility
  • Review deliverables for completeness, accuracy, and quality, ensuring that all agreed-upon revisions are completed, and that delivery to clients is timely and meets all requirements
  • Contribute to business development by cultivating relationships with potential partners and clients, proactively identifying opportunities and growing work with existing clients, identifying and pursuing opportunities with new clients, and supporting proposal writing and development

This pivotal role requires a depth of expertise, including a track record of measurable work experience and professional ingenuity, showing you are:

  • Able to develop and maintain strong professional relationships with clients
  • An expert at coordinating and conducting activities related to long- and short-range planning; program and project development, implementation and evaluation; audience research; and translation and dissemination of scientific information to audiences in a variety of formats
  • A seasoned professional with exceptional communication, organizational and time management skills, and the flexibility to adapt quickly to change
  • Experienced at leading multiple projects simultaneously
  • Able to align strategic and creative execution with the project strategy
  • Knowledgeable about behavior change communications theories and models
  • Experienced managing or working with diverse teams. Strong interpersonal skills; the ability to work well with others; and the ability to work both independently (with limited supervision) and as a team member
  • Adept at meeting deadlines and adhering to budgets without oversight
  • Committed to Banyan’s mission of creating change for good, and to bringing the mission to life across a project’s life cycle

Required skills and experiences include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public health, behavioral or social sciences, or related field (Master’s degree preferred)
  • At least 5 years of demonstrated health communications experience
  • At least 5 years of consulting experience (experience with state and/or federal clients preferred)
  • Excellent communication skills, with exceptional presentation, writing, and active listening skills
  • The flexibility to adapt quickly to change

Optional skills, experiences, and/or characteristics that may set you apart include:

  • Written fluency in more than one language

Compensation: Commensurate with experience.

Banyan Values

In our pursuit of creating change for good, we have built a company around core values that support our mission and employees:

be bold.

Imagine wildly and know that courageous, creative communications can drive social change and make the world a better place. Boldness pushes us to enter new spaces, to challenge the status quo, take smart risks, and be the best versions of ourselves.

be passionate.

Passion underlies our conviction that we can—and will—succeed. Be passionate about the positive changes we seek to create. Let passion fill our hearts, minds, bodies, and souls; let it animate and energize us.

be collaborative.

Listen actively and encourage success in others. Share ideas, knowledge, opinions, and talent with generosity, courage, and humility. Be open and receptive when challenged, and know that our work is better when we arrive at solutions together.

be curious.

Curiosity is the spirit of knowledge and thirst for insight. Be deeply and widely inquisitive about ourselves and the world around us. Ask questions, listen, and seek to understand who and what we do not know.

be compassionate.

Compassion is understanding that, all around us and far away, people are suffering. It's acknowledging this reality, feeling it in our hearts, and allowing it to guide our interactions and drive our desire to create change. It's our broad, generous, aching humanity.
