Description

Join us for “Arts-Based Approaches to Social Change” at the 2018 Canadian School of Peacebuilding with instructor Babu Ayindo. Courses are available for professional development, personal inspiration or academic credit. This course explores the idea that the “arts are powerful” in peacebuilding and hold potential for enhancing our peacebuilding work. How are arts-based efforts creating works of meaning, beauty, and imagination while also contributing to the challenges of building peace and justice? In this experiential learning process, participants will also engage in skills practice and, more importantly, draw from their learning and experience to propose initiatives relevant to their community or other setting.

Directions

Class sessions run from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM on campus at Canadian Mennonite University. Meals are available in the CMU dining room and housing is available on campus in the dormitory. All on-campus lodging and meal packages must be arranged and paid for in advance. More details are available on our website.

Who should attend

The CSOP is designed for anyone between the ages of 20 and 90 who is interested in peace work, including not-for-profit staff and interns, activists and peace educators, community leaders, religious leaders, teachers and professors, students (undergraduate or graduate), and government officials. All participants need to be fluent in English. The school is designed to be an environment characterized by (a) educating for peace and justice, (b) learning through thinking and doing, (c) generous hospitality and radical dialogue, and (d) the modeling of invitational community. The Canadian School of Peacebuilding is for peacebuilders from all faiths, countries, and identity groups.
