The Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA) is responsible for supervising programs that provide assistance and support to eligible families and individuals. OTDA’s functions include: Providing oversight and assistance to social services districts and other service providers in the provision of temporary cash assistance; providing assistance in paying for food; providing heating assistance; overseeing New York State’s child support enforcement program; determining certain aspects of eligibility for Supplemental Security Income disability benefits; supervising homeless housing and services programs; and providing assistance to certain immigrant populations. The mission of the agency is to help vulnerable New Yorkers meet their essential needs and advance economically by providing opportunities for stable employment, housing, and nutrition. OTDA seeks to empower New Yorkers to improve their financial security and household stability in support of strong families and communities.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

·        Provide vision and leadership on best practices in health and human services delivery;

·        Engage in strategic planning exercises to ensure agency continues to fulfill its mission and vision;

·        Engage with local departments of social services across the state;

·        Engage with contracted service providers across the state;

·        Engage with advocates and other stakeholders to discuss relevant agency policies and regulations;

·        Advocate on behalf of agency concerns with other stakeholders;

·        Interact with the Executive Chamber, elected officials and others on behalf of the agency.

 

Minimum Qualifications

·        BS degree required

·        Master’s degree in a related field preferred

·        10+ years of relevant work experience in the health or human services field

·        Management experience

·        Commitment to Public Service a plus

·        Broad experience in creating strategic planning and execution

·        Knowledge of health and human services delivery systems and benefit program
