The Grants & Contract Specialist reports directly to the Associate Director and, in addition to the CUNY Title Overview, assists with the following responsibilities in the Grants Office:

- Research and resolve multiple and often complex assignments; set priorities in a timely and efficient manner; collaborate with the unit director in identifying short term and long term unit objectives.

- Monitor and administer routine program activity; ensure that awarded funds are expended in accordance with terms and conditions of grants.

- Monitor staff projects; Compile and analyze data for management reports; develop and maintain various databases to ensure compliance for college-wide grants.

- Research, draft, and format reports of considerable complexity using innovative techniques and formats.

- Coordinate effort reporting for all grants; act as liaison for all release time and sponsored project effort reporting with Research Foundation and College project staff; coordinate related reporting and management systems for all office program sites.

- Respond to Principal Investigator and Project Director requests and inquiries in a timely and thorough manner.

- Maintain audit-compliant records for all College grant programs; coordinate data collection in the event of audit; liaise with internal audit at Research Foundation.

- Coordinate the implementation of College's internal vacation usage policy to ensure usage of vacation balances within project period(s) of grants to minimize cash liability for unused vacation balances.

- Assist with staff orientation, training, monitoring of work, time and leave, and performance management.

- Recruit and supervise volunteers and interns; participating in professional development activities.

- Facilitate and attend department and related meetings. 


QUALIFICATIONS 

Bachelor's Degree and four years' related experience required.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Master's Degree in a related field with two (2) years administrative, progressively responsible experience, of which at least one (1) year entailed working with state or local government processes for budgeting, expenditures, human resources, grants management and/or procurement, preferably in a social service or non-profit organization preferred; at least one (1) year supervising the work of others in a related area

- Expert knowledge of major office computer and spreadsheet software related to field of work

- Ability to work effectively with staff, associates, and internal and external constituents

- Ability to communicate effectively with diverse constituencies

- Ability to explain complex concepts to professional college staff and officials

- Ability to conduct research and manipulate complex statistical information 


CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW 

- Organizes College grant development programs under management direction.  

- Develops grant proposals to foundations and corporations; writes and edits proposals, including budgets and related materials 

- Researches and identifies grant opportunities that support College programs and initiatives; matches goals and priorities with grant opportunities 

- Tracks grant prospects and submissions; manages grant budgets 

- Assists faculty in writing research grant proposals and reports 

- Compiles and analyzes data to prepare reports for management and funding sponsors 

- Advises faculty and administration of funding opportunities and requirements 

- Performs related duties as assigned.
