Description

Representative Kate Hogan is a Democrat from the Third Middlesex District, which includes the towns of Bolton, Hudson, Maynard, and Stow. She serves as the House Chair of the Joint Committee on Public Health. Rep. Hogan is seeking a talented and dependable individual with excellent writing and interpersonal skills to serve as her Communications Director.

The Communications Director is responsible for developing and implementing communications strategies for all of the Representative’s legislation, budget items, and district priorities. The Communications Director works closely with the Representative and members of both the district and committee staff to shape messaging for relevant projects and initiatives.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

×         Building relationships with local and statewide media and serving as the primary media contact for the office;

×         Drafting statements, media advisories, press releases, and op-eds;

×         Preparing talking points and speeches for the Representative;

×         Producing monthly and quarterly e-newsletters;

×         Implementing a social media strategy across Facebook and Twitter;

×         Researching topics of constituent inquiry and responding to constituent correspondence;

×         Attending meetings and hearings in the State House and the district.

The position requires the following:

×         A degree in public relations, journalism, communications, or other related area of study or commensurate experience;

×         At least one year of work experience in a professional environment;

×         Excellent writing, research, and communication skills;

×         Ability to manage multiple projects in a busy environment;

×         Strong professional and organizational skills and attention to detail;

×         Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook

×         Reliable access to a car

Strongly desired but not required:

×         Familiarity with Massachusetts politics;

×         Familiarity with the Third Middlesex District.
